I hope we don't need an ICT Manager to set-up a web cam!

Someone with imagination maybe...

Can we get a web cam into the commentary room somehow? :D

I think that's a great idea. There's a videos section on the British Championship website, just attach it to that page.

Hello all,

The reason there were no games this morning was quite simple. I was catching up on some much needed sleep.

I also tried to switch some of my laptops about this morning to get us some more boards, but wasn't sucessful.

I can let you all know that there isn't much chance of any video, the photos are taking ages to load as we only have 3g access here.

Cheers all, happy watchng.

Dave

David,

Is there any ECF budget to provide for bandwidth / IT requirements for such occasions? If not, which budget should it come from?

Is Blue Apricot funding the live games coverage for this and other events?

John

The majority of equipment (i.e. laptops) is personally owned or funded by personal donations. Like most none sponsored congresses, this congress pays for Steve's and my travel and costs. Carl receives no fee for his server or no payment for his time. Broadband internet access here would have cost the congress over £500. This website would have been surpassed Liverpool if we could have had internet access.

I have not asked for nor do I want to charge

Due to the problems yesterday it's now taking 3 servers for some reason - not sure why yet...

Unbelievably I had that once in the Middlesex League. My opponent was certainly not graded 200.

I vaguely recall seeing an article semi seriously mentioning 1e4 Nf6 2Nf3 Nxe4 3Nc3 as a "playable gambit" :?

Hmm........

I'll have that one any day. Against Kasparov, Kramnik and Anand in consultation. I'ld love to see that article. Who wrote it? Another committee, but chaired by Butterball Eric Schiller?

What is the flipping point?????????????? White loses his e-pawn, whilst damaging his pawn structure to boot.   Whilst Black's pawn structure remains utterly undamaged. A few tempi, but to what end????????

Grrr. [Insert emoticon for shaking head violently in disbelief.]

Regards,
P.

Actually, I think that goes to show you could write a book about any garbage whatsoever and some mug will buy it, provided the title includes the word, "attacking".

I have no brief for Schiller whatsoever, but that sort of thing was more the preserve of Hugh Myers (RIP) in his dodgier moments :D (not sure if it *was* in this case though).........

Or maybe one of Stefan Bucker's oddities - anybody here know more?

I did find the issue which was not correctable on the (virtual...) server involved, so yes the increase to 3 was needed

I had soak and load tested it (plus running the Scottish tournament...) but there you go every one is different I suppose

To be clear these are virtual not physical or dedicated servers

Does the system recognise the difference between check and checkmate when displaying the game score? (I'm looking at Gill-Lalic.)

Apparently the 1-0, 0-1 or 1/2-1/2 is put on manually. So seemingly not.

That's a good point, although I was actually thinking of why it doesn't put # instead of +.

The DGT software sometimes loses track of what piece has left the board so I doubt it's intelligence

I am back at home now - how does it go generally?
