Re: Low graded players teaching chess

I know several low graded (below 100) who are teaching for chess in schools and frankly I think its disgusting as they misinform kids who are too young to discard the nonsense which comes out of their mouths. I have passed translation agency tests with the best agencies in the world despite idiot t...

Re: World Rapid & Blitz Championships

I had a look on chess24 and although I tend not to use the commentary anyway I received the message "This content is not available in your location due to licensing restrictions" I emailed chess24 about this issue - here is their reply FIDE doesn't allow us to show the stream in the UK an...

Re: 10 Second Chess - Audio

Thanks for the help, once pointed in the right direction and with the help of

It turned out to be a simple thing to do in PowerPoint - 10 minutes at 10 second followed by 5 mins at 5 seconds

Re: 10 second buzzer

I would like to use PowerPoint to run this as a loop, however not continuously but for a set time, say 10 minutes at 10 seconds then 5 minutes at 5 seconds, does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks

10 Second Chess - Audio

Hello everyone, we usually run a Christmas Lightning Event at our club, where games are played at 10 second a move, many years ago, more than 35, a member laboriously recorded a cassette where he announced every ten seconds, white, black, white, black, white etc . . . that tape is now pretty much de...

Club Insurance

Good morning, our club is setting up a junior club and is also looking for general club insurance - equipment, liability etc. We have a modest set up, say 20 sets of standard plastic pieces, 6 'nice' wooden boards and 15 plastic/vinyl + a dozen clocks analogue The junior club is ready to run, we hav...

Re: July 2014 gradings out

Almost everybody I know has had their grading go down. It is just a small sample, but have a lot of gradings gone down? About the same as have gone up, at a guess. Mean grades, Jan 2014: Standard 132, Rapid 103. July 2014: Standard 133, Rapid 104. Last year's July figures were the same as this year...

Cost of Chess Books on the Kindle

I have recently purchased a few electronic chess books - mainly to read at work (When at lunch I should add) whilst listening to music I have noticed that ebooks from publishers such as Gambit and NIC seem to be considerably cheaper than the printed versions but ebooks from Everyman don't follow thi...

Re: Fee for grading checks?

Although when our club made a genuine mistake and registered an ex player instead of a current one: The ECF refused to help - the explayed (registered in error) played zero games and the new player (missed in error) played 11 graded games. Richard to his credit agreed that it was an obvious mistake ...

Re: January 2014 Grades

I agree with David and Mike. I think an 'A' grade should be derived from all the results of the last 12 months, not the most recent 30. I agree too, makes much more sense rather than discarding games that may nave been played only the day before to make the magic 30 Having said that I just achieved...
