Re: ECF Agm 2017

The point being made was that a Welsh registered player, with English Silver membership, has to pay £1.50 rating fee for playing in an English FIDE rated event, while the English Silver member has to pay £10.50 to up-grade to Gold membership. Of course, a Welsh player wouldn't even need English Silv...

Re: 2017 AGM - Message to Bronze members

The revised document includes two statements that are relevant to your second point. “We will encourage a culture where we actively invite comment and feedback.” “We want stronger partnerships with chess players and chess organisations, and so will continue to develop communications across a range o...

Re: 2017 AGM - Message to Bronze members

From the world of men. Sometimes I am wrong. But not often. Happy Days. Let’s block the strategy that aims to increase chess activity and encourage diversity; that plans for long-term financial security; states “our biggest asset is our membership”; and identifies the need to actively promote chess ...

Re: Dave Rumens

Sad to hear of David Rumens' death. He played for several years for DHSS Chess Club after Brian Tysoe found him work in the Hospital Buildings Division in Euston Tower. His first game was on Monday, 7 October 1985 when he played on top board against Government Chemists where Kevin Thurlow provided t...

Re: WORLD AMATEUR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS: KOS 2017

the winner of the FIDE World Amateur receives the FIDE Master (FM) title and 2nd & 3rd each receive the Candidate Master (CM) title. More important, from a UK viewpoint, is that the woman champion, decided within the main event, receives or used to receive the WFM title. This was won by Elaine ...

Re: Quarter Final Draw

Andrew, thanks for sorting this out. Not all captains are fully computer literate and are not familiar with how to submit the results online and it does cause them worry if they don't see their teams name appear in the draw for the next round. The deadline for reporting results is very tight - with...

Re: WORLD AMATEUR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS: KOS 2017

The 2017 ACO tournament on Kos was just amazing, again. It attracted record numbers - 314 participants with a further 120 non-playing partners and sunbathers. For those who missed out, every day was sunny and hot with temperatures in the high 70s; the food was fantastic; and there was chess, lots an...

Re: Trump and Russia

Of course, our mystic London forefathers must have known something was coming, otherwise why would they have named two streets in the City that run into each other Trump Street and Russia Row. Play the music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b5aW08ivHU

Re: National Club 2017

Can someone advise what the entry fee per team is? The on-line form just seems to say it will rise to £30.00 a team in March. Neil - It's £25 per team, but you get £10 off for every three people staying at the hotel. So we have two teams (£50) and nine people staying overnight (-£30). So for us, th...

Re: National Club 2017

It's begun. I've just entered two teams, one each in the 150 and 125 sections. I hope to see lots of returning faces and some new ones too. It really is a fantastic weekend. I can't see an entry list - so maybe we’re first. Any others mulling it over? Some big questions - will the mighty Redditch be...
