You take considerable interest in the titles and norms achieved by English players.

Why are you so dismissive of the corresponding achievements of English arbiters?

Re: FIDE Executive Board

By the way, Kirsan is back today, occupying the President's perch but seemingly just an observer. In fact not. He just spoke about someone he has run into who might wish to host an Olympiad. Superficially this is ok, but it is starting to sound like an attempt to wrest 2018 away from Georgia. That ...

Re: European Club Cup 8-14 October, Antalya

?? 4 Title holders, that's enough, no? For some reason I've never understood, all women's titles count for the purposes of non-women's title norms. Alhtough clearly no issue anyway with WGM given that a WGM has met the criteria for FM by default. I think that you are correct on this point. 3 IMs an...

Re: European Club Cup 8-14 October, Antalya

No, he'd need to play an IM in round 7, and Dardania don't have one. Have the rules changed on this at some point? I have some vague memory (and may be confusing with something else) that at one time you only needed to play 2GMs or 3IMs for IM norm purposes (1GM counted as 1.5IMs or something?). Yo...

Re: FIDE Executive Board

It was probably a straw poll of those present, rather than a strict Executive Board vote. Not necessarily, Alex Are there really at least 57 people on the EB? I too was surprised, so I looked into it. In fact there are. There are actually 20 people on the Executive Board, five from each of the four...

Re: 43rd Guernsey International Chess Festival 15-21/10/17

I travelled to Guernsey yesterday, expecting to be the first player to get there. Within minutes of my arrival, I had met five Dutch players and one other English player. All of them were familiar and welcome faces. I don't think that Kevin's recollection is quite right. The great storm was on the n...

Re: European Club Cup 8-14 October, Antalya

You forgot to mention your dearly beloved FIDE. I would be surprised if FIDE officials are paying much attention to your posts, but I suppose I could be wrong. Nigel Freeman is an avid reader of this Forum. A few years ago a typo in a post of mine made it appear that I thought that Brussels was in ...

Re: Peter Hornsby for ECF : Tomorrow's Candidate Today!

I further suggest that the difficulty, in this instance, lies with the lack of communications within the ECF. Alex Holowczak graciously accepted responsibility for that. That would have been the end of the matter had Andrew Zigmond not decided, months later, to make the matter public with the bizar...

The ECF knows, of course.

I doubt that. I don't think that the ECF has any record of when delisting requests were made.

Voluntary officers come and go, so that sort of thing can happen.

It has, but not all former victims have yet been reinstated.

I have said many times that it's more a problem for organisers and arbiters than for affected players themselves.

Re: Chess.com Isle Of Man Tournament 23 Sep to 1 Oct 2017

It appears the fiasco at Gibraltar happened because she was ignored, or felt she was being ignored. That is her contention. It is strongly disputed by the Gibraltar arbiters. I have been a trenchant critic of Hou Yifan's behaviour in Gibraltar, but I am pleased to have the opportunity to give a dif...

Re: Chess.com Isle Of Man Tournament 23 Sep to 1 Oct 2017

The context was David suggesting that I was being unfair to a player who has been caught red-handed at least twice. That wasn't actually my intention, although I accept that it was the effect. The organisers have, in good faith, accepted an entry from someone who has not as yet been found guilty by...

Perhaps that has become necessary. His case should of course be going through Anti-Cheating Commission, but I ...
