Re: Motions

Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester have all been admitted to membership. Are they the same thing as the Manchester Chess Federation? The Manchester Chess Federation was formed by the merger of the Manchester & District Chess Association, a Constituent Unit of the ECF under Article 5(...

Re: Motions

Next question, West Midlands. They're a perfectly good county , have they ever put out teams? No, they are not, in the present context. The ECF Counties Championships are open to County Chess Associations which are ECF members, defined in the ECF Memorandum and Articles as follows: "“County As...

Re: Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz 2017

I quickly gave up on the live commentary but am not surprised by Lawrence's report that when the tournament leader appeared to have lost on time in a good position , the commentators couldn't say what had happened because they were far more interested in the battle for ninth place. The tournament l...

There was one of those at St Louis yesterday as well. It's covered towards the end of the Chess.com report linked above.

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

I see your point that school activities dictate the timetable, but that puts the double round day as rounds 1 and 2, being the first Sunday, or rounds 6/7 on the final Saturday or rounds 7/8 on the final Sunday. Please see the edit to my original post. The Festival will now take place from Saturday...

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

The London Chess Classic Festival will take place from Sunday December 3 until Monday December 11 at the second venue. So the format for the supporting tournaments isn't going to be as for previous years. The convenience or otherwise of travel to the "second venue" is a likely considerati...

Re: I wanna become a GM

Do we know who the 10th player will be or is that part of the announcement? It will be part of the announcement. An announcement that Mickey Adams will again be the wildcard at the London Chess Classic flashed across the screen during the commentary from Saint Louis, along with the schedule. This a...

Re: EU Senior Individual Champs 2017 Barcelona, 11-21 Aug

Obviously there is terrible news coming in Barcelona at present. Do we know if any of the participants in the Senior Championships are affected ( a club colleague of mine is playing )? Could you email him, or contact him on social media? Foreign Office advice: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advi...

Re: july grades

Sounds like you need some form of league management software with automatic feeding of results into the grading system ;-) Though it will still be necessary for players to be correctly identified! Except of course, on LMS, we'll be requiring everyone to put the check letter in first before the numb...

Re: Motions

Unless Greater Manchester actually field an Open team in the competition, I don't see any justification for blocking players turning out for another team with which they claim affiliation. Last season Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey all played in the U120 Division of the SCCU Count...

Re: Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz 2017

Play starts each day until Friday 18th August at 1300 BST. Wouldn't that be 7am in St Louis? That's Birmingham Summer Time, the one in Alabama. Chess24 is expecting the games to start at 19:00 UK time. Thank you everyone. I did of course mean 1900 BST, or 1300 CDT (the local time in St Louis). I ha...
