Re: 7th Gibraltar Junior International Chess Festival

In noticed this on the ECF website (I posted under this heading as I assume it was at the junior event where he was taken ill - but I could be mistaken) Posted By: WebAdmin September 11, 2017 You may have heard that Dave Welch was taken ill whilst arbiting in Gibraltar. He is now back in Liverpool i...

Re: Glorney Gilbert International 2017

Unfortunately Scotland were two players short in the Gilbert so the cross table in the above link is not correct. I think the scores at the top are France 9.5 Ireland 9 Wales 8 England 7.5.

Re: Glorney Gilbert International 2017

There seems to be issues with the names on the live boards which the organisers are trying to sort out. I think England are playing France in round 1. Some commentary here https://www.twitch.tv/theyellowdragoon

Re: Junior chess in latest ECF board minutes

That was a deliberate decision, making a clear division between serious chess and the more knockabout versions. I don't think the world really wants yet another rating system for this gap - perhaps they could be pushed into rapid, but that would cause new problems.. I personally can't see the sense...

Re: European Schools Chess Championship 2017

Nice win by Joe in the U9's against the number 2 seed to move him at least in to the top 3 with one round left (ignoring any tie break). In the position below his opponent played 0-0 and Joe spotted the winning tactic.

Re: Poll: Is the ECF doing a good job?

Thanks Roger, yes I think you are correct and under company law it wouldn't be possible to require a proxy notice to specify how the proxy was to vote (although I am not an expert in company law).

Re: Poll: Is the ECF doing a good job?

I do think the voting system needs looking at and either the number of votes increased such that it becomes 1 member 1 vote or reduced such that those present at the meetings only have a few votes each at most. I really don't like the system where individuals can cast large numbers of votes as they ...

Re: Cheating in chess

Without commenting on the specific case I suspect it may well occur increasingly often. There are clearly some very talented players that play huge amounts of blitz on the internet and not very often over the board. It would seem logical that such players may well be capable of playing very strong m...
