Re: English Chess Forum player of the year
As Match Secretary of the Bury St Edmunds Chess Club, I would like to mention that David Wood is one of our most dedicated and enthusiastic members. He has captained three teams this season, sending out team lists well in advance of each match. He has helped out at the Junior Club (Bury Knights), as...

There were 356 at Scarborough (a record), 162 at Bury St Edmunds (second highest ever) and more than 140 shared between Bournemouth and Hampstead (don't have the exact figures). Included were several titled players, includin...

Re: 32nd Bury St Edmunds Congress, 25-26 October

If the total number of goals scored in the match is even (including a 0-0 draw), then the highest graded player in each section will be White in Round 1. If the...

Re: Free Chess Sets for all Schools in North Wales
On a much smaller scale, the Bury Knights Junior Chess Club (in Bury St Edmunds) have upgraded their stock of sets and boards and are distributing their redundant old equipment to local primary schools interested in setting up chess clubs. Precisely that. Not all boards will be using digital clocks anyway. The organisers are effectively saying that all requests for a clock change under Law G.4 will be refused, so players can go straight to Law G.5.

The entry form also states, under the heading 'Quickplay Finish', "The new FIDE rule (Appendix G.4) will not apply." So, Roger, we very much hope to see you again this year, and Chris Kreuzer too!

Re: Shrinking club chess and mergers

Re: Juniors abroad
Not only an IM norm, but Alan won the event (on tie-break). Not bad for the sixth seed!

Re: Juniors abroad
I may be wrong, but by my reckoning Alan Merry, already on 6 points, has attained an IM norm (even if he loses the final round this morning). Average rating of his opponents is 2293 and I believe 66% is +125.
