Re: Redditch Chess Club Website

Thanks. I'll check out the link to WCA tomorrow. I could have done something wrong or it could be the URL is about to change. I know Ray Collett was looking at moving the site. We have several large chess sets and our cat loves to climb onto them and tap the pieces. The header with the glass pieces ...

Redditch Chess Club Website

I've finally managed to make us a website. Someone told me Weebly was easy. I suppose it is in as much as I've managed to do it :D but it's taken me hours. Here is the link http://redditchchessclub.weebly.com/ I've found out how to add pages so I will try and set up a links page next. First p...

Re: Players wanted for next season

We're getting a fair bit of interest from people who have played on the internet or at school and want to try club chess. Hopefully enough for an extra club competition for ungraded players. We are still a bit light for Birmingham League Div 2 though. So anyone looking for a good team for the new se...

Re: ABERYSTWYTH - ARE YOU GOING?

I've looked online but it doesn't say where exactly the chess is being held so hard to work it out. Also a member who went to Aberystwyth University seemed to think it was a fair step.

Re: ABERYSTWYTH - ARE YOU GOING?

Does anyone know exactly where the tournaments will be held on campus? Is it very far from the university accommodation i.e. is it in walking distance?

Re: Players wanted for next season

No it all goes back to the days when so many people wanted to play in the Birmingham League it was a job to fit them all in! As Alex said there is a proposal to change it which is likely to go through, but there are no guarantees. Dan is just pointing out the different methods to qualify by in case ...

Players wanted for next season

Any chess players living or moving to the midlands, within 15 miles of Redditch, who are interested in playing in the Birmingham League (and/ or Worcester & District League) please get in touch. We are a very friendly and keen club. One of our players has found a really good job and is moving away w...

Re: National Club Chamionship - what is the point?

Many thanks to Dave Alex and the rest of the team for all their hard work. We thoroughly enjoyed the event although we could have played a little better. But then you can always say that about chess! It was a bit of a trek but not too bad and it's a good chess venue. The advantage was the number of ...

Re: National Club Chamionship - what is the point?

Have entered a team from Redditch in the 125 section today. It's a good hotel, I've played in a couple of e2e4 events there and enjoyed them. I hope there are going to be a few more teams. I expect there will be some like us who have entered on the last day before the price goes up. £15 entry fee fo...

Re: Manager for Disabled Chess

Church and community halls tend to be good for disabled access. We were fortunate to find one for our club which also has good lighting and heating systems. It does mean that our subs are higher than people who have free rooms in social clubs and pubs, but it is good to be able to see the board well!

Well I should think so too. Can't believe they even considered not doing so. I've looked on the ECF website and I can't see the announcement anywhere. Where will I find it?

Re: Andrew Paulson -- Candidacy for ECF President

Some interesting candidates in this election. Why don't we just give Mr Paulson a chance to see what contribution he could make? It seems to me chess goes in cycles. Certain openings are fashionable and much effort is expended in improving them. Then every now and then there is a seismic shift and s...
