Re: Motions

Back in 1974, it was only in the NCCU area that ambitious leagues sought County status. So you had the Liverpool league and the Teesside league, both of which were accepted by the NCCU as counties and the Manchester league which wasn't. Plausibly similar leagues in Bristol, Birmingham and London wer...

Re: Motions

I'm probably going to regret asking this, but why aren't there Merseyside teams in the County Championships? There have been and there could be. Presumably the usual story of a shortage of willing players and organisers. 4NCL North is competing for the attention of players although the absence of M...

The simplest rule is that which most other "sports" have evolved to, namely that you declare your squad at the start of the season or at an interim transfer deadline.

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

Has it been announced that there is going to be a 9 round Open? There's been one in every previous year as far as I recall. But if it shouldn't be assumed to take place until announced, is there going to be a British Championship next year? For that matter is there going to be an English Seniors in...

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

The Festival will now take place from Saturday December 2 until Sunday December 10 at the second venue. When the schedule is published, we will find out whether the intention is to have 9 rounds in 9 days, 9 rounds in 8 with a one day rapid or 9 rounds in 7 with a two day rapid and whether the rapi...

What happens if he makes a claim before 50 moves have elapsed? Would the opponent have been awarded more time?

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

Do you ever wait until you have the facts about anything before jumping to negative conclusions about it? I see your point that school activities dictate the timetable, but that puts the double round day as rounds 1 and 2, being the first Sunday, or rounds 6/7 on the final Saturday or rounds 7/8 on...

Re: London Chess Classic 2017

The London Chess Classic Festival will take place from Sunday December 3 until Monday December 11 at the second venue. So the format for the supporting tournaments isn't going to be as for previous years. The convenience or otherwise of travel to the "second venue" is a likely considerati...

Apart from leaving a few potential holes around e3 and g3 if Alekhine players face this often and general experiences? 1. E4 Nf6 2. Re: Media comments on chess

Any chess connections on Channel 4's Child Genius this year?

If the press reporting is anything to go by, it's getting too intense for its own good.

Re: Motions

If a number of Sussex U120 players had "claimed affiliation" to Surrey and played for them, do you not feel that any or all of Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent and Middlesex might have been entitled to object? The other side of that question is whether it is right and acceptable to bar Sussex r...

Re: july grades

Not sure how extra checks on grading will help. Those of us who keep a personal database of our games can check very easily that all games are present. If you find that a League or Congress isn't present or the results mangled, that's an easy validation. With Congresses most results are now loaded ...

Re: Motions

What was the specific dispute that occurred in the match? Did one team complain that their opponents had fielded an ineligible player? If it was the Counties Final, there were voices that Lancashire included a handful of Greater Manchester players in their winning team against Yorkshire. It's been ...
