"That's a whole new definition for Chess for Tigers."

But at that time of year, you can only watch the Robins... (or the other lot).

In an attempt to outdave Dave, I am already organized to get there.

Re: Champions' Names

"As you can see if you consult my website, I've now embarked on a more ambitious task - to post complete results and crosstables (as well as available games) of all the British Championships from 1904 onwards."

Wow!

Re: Candidates Tournament in Berlin March 2018

"Pop quiz: when did Manchester United last play in the first round of the FA Cup?" Their first FA Cup match was in Round 1 in 1886, but they were called Newton Heath then. FC United of Manchester have played in it recently! For the uninitiated, teams from the top two divisions are exempted...

Re: SCCU 125th Anniversary Match - Saturday 16th September 2017

It is a sign of the times that interest in such matches has plummeted so much. I was one of the captains for the South of London vs North of London "Pergamon Chess" launch about 25 years ago and we had lots more than that. In 1969, Civil Service beat Insurance in a 75-board match. County m...

Government Funding of BCF

Reading an old copy of the Civil Service Chess Bulletin, I found that In 1969, Civil Service defeated a team of MPs 6-2, and during the coffee break, PS Milner-Barry asked if the MPs could grant BCF financial support, as it did to other social activities. "In reply, Mr Julius Silverman, MP, tha...

Re: Chess Behind Bars

"Kevin, they haven't quoted your review!! "

The other reviewers were doubtless sent a copy of the book, and they supplied the publishers with the review. I bought the book and the publishers probably don't know I reviewed it. Or it could be that the other reviews are better written!

Re: Media comments on chess

Katie Derham on "Last Night of the Proms" is giving a tour of the Royal Albert Hall and has said it has featured "Chess-boxing", with the perfectly reasonable comment, "No, I don't know what it is either".
