Re: Media comments on chess

Hi Stewart, I saw 'The Chess Player' today. Enjoyed it, Excellent. "It would be good to get this performed rather nearer home." In the programme there is a wee footnote. If you interested in brining THE CHESS PLAYER to your theatre please feel free to contact me: (I'll PM you his email in ...

Re: British Chess Championship Daily Reports

Hi Chris,

"Not Only Chess (1974) sounds interesting. Can anyone recommend it?"

I cannot say I've seen it.

I wonder if he starts off each chapter with a quote from a Len Deighton book.

Re: British Chess Championship Daily Reports

Hi Justin, Here is the quest open to all chess players everywhere. https://www.redhotpawn.com/chess-blog/the-planet-greenpawn/help-from-all-rhp-players-needed.365 Have no fear, someone, somewhere will come through. The Abrahams book has historical tit-bits scattered all the way though it. Also his t...

Re: British Chess Championship Daily Reports

Thanks Justin, By coincidence I'm just about to get every RHP player in on the search for the book Len Deighton used in 'Funeral in Berlin'. I even bought a 2nd copy, just finished it in bed this morning. It mus be an original because this one mentions 'Brocks Fireworks' which turned into a legal ma...

Re: Media comments on chess

Re The Danial Gallagher piece.: I take he was referring to Craig Pritchett as the 'Independent' Master. Has Scotland got their Independence? They kept that quiet. Or has Craig set up his own Independant Chess Federation. (Craig is 68 years old). Whilst here and on the track of another secret. Who wo...

Re: Strange example of gamesmanship in play

Somehow this reminds me of Tal in reply to Fischer's 1.e4 paused with the pawn on
c6 as if to play a Caro Kann and then slide it to c5. Fischer is quite unimpressed.

Re: Media comments on chess

From yesterday's Sun, find the 7 chess terms. (I found 8. if you include 'net' as in mating net) https://image.ibb.co/hpgSaQ/wordsearch.jpg It looks like the Sun's Word Search composer thought of doing something about Wimbledon There is 'BAT', 'NET, and 'TENNID' in there. Then he ran out of ideas an...

Re: What do I do?

If it's prestige and money you want then I doubt you will get it from forming your own club. All chess clubs in the UK are run by people who give up their spare time and are usually unpaid. They are dedicated and often year after year receive no recognition at all except a polite hand clap from thos...

Re: What do I do?

'off you go'. = You are ready. Go and do it. No need for any further delay.

Another idea is to join an existing club and see how they run the club.

Re: What do I do?

This link may help. https://www.chesskid.com/article/view/how-to-start-a-chess-club. Although it was a kids club, there are quite a few valid ideas for adult clubs. There seems to be a number of chess events in Iran. http://ratings.fide.com/tournament_list.phtml?country=IRI&moder=ev_code&rat...

Re: 'The Famous Eccles'

Tony Gillam says sorry, he can be of no help in this matter. Looking like we will never know. I thought it might be rhyming slang 'Eccles Cake = Checkmate'. Now trying to help Justin figure which book Len Deighton used in 'Funeral in Berlin'. http://streathambrixtonchess.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/berli...
