Re: FIDE Executive Board

Just as the London League has invested in a number of shiny new analogue clocks to accommodate the needs of their new venue as well... ;) I know that it's become commonplace to describe purchasing just about anything as an "investment", but using that word here really is taking things too...

Somewhere along the line, this thread also became probably the largest (though not the longest-running) one on the forum. It has reached 140 pages, whereas the "Media comments on chess" one is 'only' 138 pages (but is probably one of the longest-running ones). I'll leave as an exercise to...

Re: London chess-FIDE open

Get a flight to London Heathrow and stay in a budget hotel somewhere between the airport and the playing venue at Olympia and you'll feel like you're in your home away from home since so many "middle easterns" frequent the area. or stay somewhere near Edgware Road - "The southernmost...

There's an article in today's Times saying that Borna Derakhshani has switched federations to England. It says he is now attending CATS College in Canterbury (a boarding school). There are some comments from Dominic Lawson who the article says he approached requesting a transfer to England. ... and...

Judging by the waist-line of many Americans, they'll have difficulty competing with National Dessert Day.

But if you can't stay at the hotel where it's being played, with the convenience of being able to go back to your room between games, the event loses it's attractiveness.

It seems likely that it's clashing with some other local event because the hotel was fully booked on the Saturday night at least 2 months ago. I would probably have played if I'd been able to get a room.

I know about the castling option in Carlsen - Nakamura game, it is the same here but 19.Ke2 is the only legal move (Carlsen had Qxc2) So, legally, did 19. Ke2 have to played or written on the score sheet here because 19. Ke2 is the only move White can play in that position. The answer must be yes b...

Re: 2017 World Cup 2-27 September, Tbilisi

A draw in a Swiss rarely damages the prospects for other players. I think that claim requires justification. If you are a point behind other players and they draw, you're still behind all of them even if you win. You're surely likely to be better off with all decisive results amongst those players,...

It means they've written a paper (or similar) on the subject after a long time of it not being addressed by anyone.

Re: Arbitration question

Hello. A young player arrived late at the venue and sat on the wrong board next to his actual table [at the other side of which his opponent was waiting] whose opponent had not also appeared. The arbiters have forfeited both players. Have they done the right thing? You're saying a player was forfei...
