Agreed, super commentary and no problems with transmission up to now. Praise goes to the organisers.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. Is Jonathan Hawkins, British Champion, going to play?

Re: Use of Technology at the British Championships
I wasn't commenting on the volunteers at the British; it was a general statement based in part on my experience working for voluntary organisations and in schools.I don't think that any of the volunteers at the British could be accused of being an amateur or incompetent.

Re: Use of Technology at the British Championships
Unfortunately, because everyone is a volunteer there may be an understandable culture of sustained praise, rather than a dispassionate, detailed analysis of competence in tasks undertaken. In Volunteer organisations that we have been involved in it was always stressed that all work (and it is work) ...

Re: British 2015 Round by Round
Could someone explain the situation of paid staff at the British please? I do not know who is or isn't a volunteer.
Do the forumites think that being a volunteer is enough to shield someone from criticism?
Thanks in advance.

Re: British 2015 Round by Round
Could someone in authority view the messages at chess24 regarding the lack of commentary, and understand the frustration of the potential audience. Obviously everyone involved will be frustrated too, but it really is a poor advertisement for the ECF.

Re: Media comments on chess
The book is 'Bad for You: Exposing the War on Fun'; it is modern and has an interesting section about the way chess was perceived by some in 1859 so is relevant to the string, especially when the Scientific American became involved! It was of course quite a special year for chess-playing Americans. ...

Congratulations to all the girls who participated, it's great to see such competition!
Thank you to the organisers, parents and teachers, and as Andrew wrote, let's hope this event attracts even more entrants next year.

Re: Robin Horner
Sad news indeed. Our sympathies to his family, friends and everyone who knew him. He always possessed a character of quiet dignity and authority, and was the calm voice of reason in many discussions. He will be missed.
