Re: Signature pose for a chess player
Not sure about a signature pose but I figured suitable wording to go on one's tombstone after you have died, if you wanted people to know you were a chess player. All you have put is your name and underneath the phrase "I was winning......"

Re: Grading Restricted Leagues
One other idea is what we do with our internal team competition (Super League) which currently has a total of 18 teams across 2 divisions (heading towards 3 divisions and a "cup" from next season). The rules until this summer have given each captain a total grading aggregate for the season (4000 ECF...

Re: Mr Bruce Birchall
Keith Selby has found 1 photo of Bruce - he was playing Aly Wilson. Not the best picture but possibly enough.

Re: 9 move checkmate
I don't recall actually being checkmated that quickly since my earlier years at school, but I do remember playing badly enough that I should have resigned by move 9 in one or two games. However I was once quoted by a local paper as saying that I had lost to Jessie Gilbert in "about 3 moves." As it h...

Subbuteo Table Football
If anyone is interested, we are now running a Subbuteo Table Football Club on Friday evenings at CCF. We started last summer for a brief few weeks and then kicked off again in December. We already have quite a large club compared to most and are beginning to attract some decent players.

Re: Junior Concessions
That doesn't altogether surprise me! I reckon we must run more events than anyone when all of the junior and senior events plus the Monday club events are added together.

Re: Coulsdon Chess Rapid Play
Obviously I would agree! But that probably won't surprise anyone. Was great to see the Williams family again yesterday. We first saw Peter (junior) when he was 5 (when he won an u8 LJCC qualifier with a maximum score). And there he was yesterday scoring a maximum 7 in quite a good field. Looking fow...

Re: Junior Concessions
Sorry I have been a it slow on the uptake but I have not been looking at the forum much recently, aside of the thread on the "General" page about FIDE Ratings disappearing. I have noticed at times in threads that some have a perception that we (CCF) have "used" our ECF Corporate Vice-Presidency to g...

Re: FIDE Rated In January NOT in March.
In answer to Paul Dupre, the rating report for the Jessie Gilbert B event in 2010 was produced and emailed to me by Jack Rudd (who was my assistant arbiter). I then forwarded it to the ECF Ratings Officer, Howard Grist. As I recall Jack used Swissmaster, which automatically links into the FIDE list ...

Re: FIDE Rated In January NOT in March.
I was pointed to this thread this morning and scanned it with a level of both concern at the mistake and amusement at certain comments. Can I correctly assume from the subsequent postings that Coulsdon did not muck up? Am happy to correct something or apologise if we have. Members are able to go ba...

Maybe the 2nd team were not as drunk as the 1st team?

Re: 2 teams from the same club in the same league!
Some years back Coulsdon & Purley (as it was then) had 10 across in the 5 divisions of the Surrey league. We had 2 teams in each division and the season always started with a night when all of them played each other as appropriate. In addition I can also recall having 3 teams in the Croydon League b...

No reason why not! Am sure most of the players will be OK with it. But not all I am sure!
