Ding & Aronian join Karjakin in Berlin

2 from Shak, Grischuk, Radjabov & MVL will qualify from the GP (decided in November)

2 from Caruana, So & Kramnik by average rating (decided when we know what the December ratings will be)

Re: 2017 World Cup 2-27 September, Tbilisi

Well done Ding, China's first Candidate Puts Shak quite close to qualifying too, as it takes Ding out of the way for 1 of the 2 spots from the GP; if MVL wins today, Shak is in Makes the rating race between Caruana, So & Kramnik very interesting now yes, but quite likely the one who misses out ...

Re: 2017 World Cup 2-27 September, Tbilisi

Why the popular preference of Ding over So? I actually share it, but cannot really explain it to myself. Perhaps we just think it's time a Chinese player made a breakthrough like this, and that it might add more intrigue to the candidates? I hope So wins, and then Ding does well enough in Palma to ...

Indeed not; they might gain rating points at IoM, and Kramnik is also playing the Euro Club Cup after IoM

Amazingly strong tournament; congratulations to the IoM organisers for assembling such a strong field

Re: Candidates Tournament in Berlin March 2018

So's live rating was 2788.4, which would have been rounded down to 2788; he has dropped 0.3 today and would do the same tomorrow with a draw, so still rounded to 2788, which is where he would stay if he lost the tiebreak (if he wins the tiebreak, then his rating becomes irrelevant, as he'll have qua...

Indeed, wonder if Kramnik will only play white in an attempt to improve his rating?

Re: 2017 World Cup 2-27 September, Tbilisi

My guess is he’s still in his prep. If that was true it would beg the question of what Aronian was up to today. Actually even if he wasn’t, you have to wonder. Maybe he really was winging it as IM Trent suggested - despite what Svidler might have thought. https://twitter.com/polborta/status/9101071...
