Yes I recall hearing about that squealing. I would love to get the detractors and tie a wrist, forcing it down slightly towards the corresponding ankle to see how comfortable they felt with a spinal deformity.

James Plaskett has type 1 Diabetes ( auto immune disease) not type 2 which is endemic these days often due to lifestyle. James visited South Africa where his brother lived and offered to meet and play the top black player. I have a disability which makes chess difficult. I have scoliosis which badly...

Re: Chess and Road Cycling
Interesting article - however gridlock has been made worse with the introduction of bus lanes. Roads were first made passable for the carriage trade in the 18 th century as passengers even then had problems with highway men and accidents resulting from poor road maintenance causing over turned vehic...

In reply to some posts Roads tarmacked for cars http://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2011/aug/15/cyclists-paved-way-for-roads Then it is a pity the cyclists don't contribute to excise duty and have number plates for identifying them when they cause an accident. Equality on the roads ple...

Killer instinct is worth it's weight in gold whenever a person wants to excell at anything. Luck favours the player who keeps confident and retains an open mind when examining a position.

At this rate all players should be allocated stretchy form fitting body stockings to prevent any forbidden electronic device being concealed on their person.

Re: Chess and Road Cycling
I have a confession to make. I am a serial killer. I have murdered numerous cyclists during my life. I am the sole reason for the road blockages yesterday. The Tour de France passed by our road and my husband colluded with the authorities to block the streets to ensure the competitors were saved fro...

Re: Women at chess clubs
Francis That would be pleasant but not always feasable. In my case I had the club champion kindly taking an interest - Harry Wolverton was an old school gentleman and always decent to new untried members. All clubs really need is a couple of decent established members who are happy to put new people...

Re: Chess and Road Cycling
Vehicle Excise Duty is a tax. Excise levied on diesel and petrol is tax. This is paid for by road users who buy fuel. Excise Duty is raised to pay for roads - cyclists do not pay any Vehicle Excise Duty. Are you claiming that because you have to spend more to drive a car than to ride a bike, that t...

Cyclists claim environmental credentials. They discount the cost to the environment of manufacturing bicycles. Especially the rubber components and glue. [...] Tax levied on motorists for the maintenance of the roads is not applied to cyclists but they don't seem to object to partaking of the large...

Re: Chess and Road Cycling
The point is not, of course, whether the proportion of cyclists who ride badly is greater than the proportion of motorists who drive badly, or whether one group is a greater danger than the other. it's that it's not OK to express hatred of people as a group, or wish violence on them, or exult in th...
