Thanks Paolo!
I'll buy you a drink with the 20 dollars I didn't spend (not that I ever intended to!)

Re: World Championship Schedule
Anyone recommend a good site to follow the match? I got an ad in my inbox for online access to the match on the link below for 20 dollars (!), but they hardly have exclusive rights, do they?

Re: How tight are you?
I'm generally the one who does the driving. No-one has ever offered me petrol money, but then again, that's probably my fault for not asking for it! To be honest, there are so many other things that annoy me about my club mates, that chasing them up for petrol money would just be another hassle, so ...

Re: What is your favourite Chess Website to Play Chess on?
I played on playchess.com for years, out of habit mostly, I never really looked around to see what else was available. However the constant lag and disconnection problems forced me to look for something better, and I stumbled across Lichess. What a revelation! The amount of effort that goes into tha...

Re: A minor yet irritating point of chess etiquette
I think if players are asked nicely, at the start of the round, to reset the pieces at the end of the game, they'll do so.

Re: A minor yet irritating point of chess etiquette
One thing for me is those helpful people who insist on putting the pieces back in the boxes on completed boards when there are still games in progress, usually mine, and usually during time trouble. Which happens for several reasons: - It's easier to get stuff put away when people are still around,...

Re: A minor yet irritating point of chess etiquette
Short answer: couldn't be arsed.
Longer answer: Lack of respect for whoever has to tidy up at the end, and lack of pressure from their peers to encourage them to do so.

Re: Scid vs. PC help
Thanks for the help MSoszynski and Martin! You were right about me not wanting to do it that way, I'd already thought of doing it that way but I thought there might be something more efficient. Regarding the report, it seems very basic. Although I've just learned that I've a 57% score with White and...

Re: Letting The Cat Out Of The Bag
I assume you're talking about openings that are dodgy but score well OTB? To be honest, if you're chatting with your club mates, you don't necessarily have to give away your whole repertoire. I've actually on occasion tried to show some risky lines to fellow players, but unless they play the exact s...

Scid vs. PC help
Hi all. I'm using version 4.16, I have a small database of games that I want to filter in the following way: I want to select all my games as White and then use the Tree function to look through my openings to see which ones I do well/poorly against. So I open the game database, go to Search->Genera...

Re: French Championships
As far as I can remember, anyone can participate in any of the different tournaments in the French Championship (Accession, Open A, Open B etc) regardless of nationality, with the exception of the very top tournament to determine the French champion. Unless the rules have changed recently.

Re: How good should you be to teach?
I find over the board chess frustrating.... I can play a lot better online and recently beat a Very strong FM as well as having beaten candidate masters. Do you think this would make me suitable to teach chess even though I mess up over the board, or do you think the fact that my OTB play is so wea...

Re: Which Two Books ? - The Quest continues
Cool, I've done as much as the Greek U12 superstar from Athens!! And it only took me two years!
Still, I'm surprised by his answer, I honestly expected that the answer would be that he'd done a few bit and bobs from the books, without going through them methodically.
