In the West you usually have to pay to advertise but publicity usually comes free.

Re: Why did he did so?

You could correct it yourself to -

Why did he do so?

However, in doing so you would lose your trademark foreign delivery and sound too much like an honourary Englishman.

It probably infringes copyright in a similar way that receiving stolen goods breaks the law.

Re: 'The Famous Eccles'

It's Eccles v. Bluebottle - "I'm the famous Eccles..." was one catchphrase from the Goon Show Another was Bluebottle's "I don't like this game!" Black's 11... O-O-O is not to be liked. The game Shashin-Kolevit was also given in Julian Hodgson's Chess Travellers Quiz Book , amongs...

Re: The English Language

It was good of Ian T & E Michael to explain the details and wider meaning of ceteris paribus.

Emanuel Lasker - a great academic as well as a great player - made use of it, and other Latin terms, in his chess books.

Re: Grand-Prix 2017 Events Venues and Dates confirmed

By the way, Radjabov-Harikrishna was a QGD (5.Bf4) drawn in 21 moves.

Mamedyarov-Eljanov draw in 22 moves.

Gelfand-Giri was a draw in 24.

Salem-Rapport is another exciting Sicilian (in a similar vein to Rendle v. Bates at Kingsplace on Sat.) but it may already be all over after only 22 moves?

Re: Kings Place Chess Festival Saturday 8th July

Congratulations to the winners. I was hoping that the final-round game Rendle,T-Bates,R would go 1.f4... W may have later regretted not doing so, but it was an exciting Sicilian instead - [Event "Kings Place RP"] [Site ""] [Date "2017.07.08"] [Round "6"] [Whit...

Re: Grand-Prix 2017 Events Venues and Dates confirmed

Thanks to Chris & Loz for all the info. In that Chessbase News round-1 report even Yermolinsky is confused having correctly given the dates as 6th-15th July he goes on to say, incorrectly, "The tournament runs from June 6-15..." No matter, but I hope that today Adams, playing Black in ...

Thanks Loz. It's all very fast furious and confusing - WB, BB... Li, Chao, Li Chao, Chao Li, etc. Your results and pairings from Geneva - via Paris & Leuven - Pairings/Results Round 1 on 2017/07/06 at 14:00 Bo. No. Name Rtg Pts. Result Pts. Name Rtg No. 1 1 GM Aronian Levon 2809 0 ½ - ½ 0 GM Li ...

Re: Grand-Prix 2017 Events Venues and Dates confirmed

Eljanov - a pawn up in K &P ending - should win against Hou.

Inarkiev - a pawn up in R & B of opposite colours ending - may not have enough to defeat Grischuk.

Aronian probably won't get anything more than a draw against Li.

Riazantsev-Harikrishna is anyone's guess.

Re: Grand-Prix 2017 Events Venues and Dates confirmed

A convincing win for Adams in round 1. Giri lost with white to Radjabov and there have been draws in the Gelfand-Mamedyarov and Svidler-Jakovenko games. Results - Gelfand 1/2 Mamedyarov Svidler 1/2 Jakovenko Adams 1-0 Saleh Giri 0-1 Radjabov Despite what I quoted at top of page, Giri's a goner. Aga...
