Re: Cheating Scandal at the Botvinnik Memorial Open
I'm sorry but I have great sympathy with the people he played in those early rounds. Of course the players are affected even if it doesn't end up rated(Norm chances gone for a start). Given the effort and expense people put into chess I don't really see the funny side. I don't know how you expect t...

Re: ELO vs ECF grading systems
Perhaps along with your forum account? Woo scary man, you don't like opinions that disagree with your blinkered views. There is a point at which my patience runs out with some of the more recent childish banter - anyone care to find out where this point is by continuing this silly discussion?...

Re: ELO vs ECF grading systems
And to keep on topic, ELO not Elo is better than ECF. If you can't understand that, there is no point in me trying to explain it. You still wouldn't understand. I think you find it is the Elo rating system named after Arpad Elo, I may incorrect but that is what I always thought it was You may incor...

Re: Cheating Scandal at the Botvinnik Memorial Open
I doubt you'd be amused if you were one of the people who had their tournament ruined by this guy. You need to chill out, he was disqualified, players scores and ratings would not be affected. The up side is he won't be allowed to play in any tournaments for a very long time. With any luck he will ...

Re: ELO vs ECF grading systems
You don't want to contribute to junior chess? have a FIDE rating? feel the Olympiad team represents you? want the British championship to continue? As £ 18 is (or should be) far more than the marginal cost of grading 15 or 16 games, I'd suggest such a player is a positive contributor to the ECF's ...

Re: ELO vs ECF grading systems
Seeing as the topic is ELO vs ECF, not Elo vs ECF, I think that is a valid point. No, you haven't. You've said:
"I think the best argument is, if we had an ELO rating system, we would not have to join the ECF."
Which as I've just explained, is absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

Re: ELO vs ECF grading systems
That's not too bad I suppose, just stick to playing in 3 tournaments per year. Saves a quid.Oddly enough you can get away with that one, but at a price. The price will be £ 6 per tournament as against £ 19 for membership.

Re: ELO vs ECF grading systems
In what way is there a link between the type of rating system the ECF use for domestic chess and the compulsion to be a member of the ECF? The link is between ELO and ECF, we have ECF grades by default, if you want an ELO grade, you have to pay the ECF further sums for life to get and stay FIDE rat...

Re: ELO vs ECF grading systems
If you get an international Elo rating, you can keep it for life by not playing any more international chess and the ECF will not harass you for £ 25 every year. The trick is to get your international rating flagged as inactive whilst you are still an ECF member. Its bad enough not being allowed t...

Re: Summary of Funding Proposals for AGM
If I were entering a congress, I wouldn't care remotely how the organiser votes. There is an easy way to find out how organisers vote, try entering a FIDE rated tournament in England and see if they ask for your ECF membership No. You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment. Could I...
