Re: The Chess Traveller

Neil, get your Notts team out to play him. I expect a weak player as not on the ECF list.

Not expecting him to default with a book to sell and due to be published in 2017.

Looks a bit further south than his travels on his latest publication.

Re: County Championship Finals

Any reason not to delegate some of it to say the arbiting team?

Hope it goes well & may watch a live board if I decide not to play chess on that day.

Re: The case for scrapping "Player of the Year"

If you have awards you need to do it properly. I would have been livid if a Chelsea player had not won a player of the year award. Personally I think it is a service that ought to be done properly as part of membership. So why not make refunds for those that voted (£5 seems fine to me). Otherwise we...

Re: PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2017

One of the perks of membership is to vote. I'm quite happy for ECF to refund all the voters £5 or deduct from next year. Sorry but a junior won the previous year so if you are going to put a junior on a list with 5 others what would the awards committee think would happen? There was me praising the ...

Re: Grand Chess Tour events: Paris GCT and Leuven, Belgium

We so fortunate to have David ensuring the players are as comfortable as possible and posting here.
Even at Ascot yesterday men were allowed to take their jackets off.

Time for another cold refill before the time scrambles start!

Watch live from the GCT site. Scorching in Paris. Going to be scorching over the chess board.
Boiling in London. Have a cold pasta salad and iced drink and enjoy.
They ought to take their jackets off!

Re: PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2017

I am still not sure why the votes were cancelled. A manual system for the few returns and that is it.

More than 10% on the legal case. Similar to the rake on a poker tournament buy in.
The sooner we leave EU the better.

Re: Semi-Final Draw

Can you imagine the piffy remarks that Richard Haddrell would have made on his SCCU website?
Anyway I cannot see Lancashire even getting close to Yorkshire

Re: ECF may join with English Bridge Union in Judicial Review

All very well & thanks.

However, with Brexit there will be a complete taxation overhaul. VAT being a EU construction. Think carefully about gambling any more money!

Re: Chess Player Sues FIDE For Not Giving Him The GM Title

What are the time limits for these type of claims? it is probably out of time. Ought to have been raised with the organisers.

Think about our ECF grading database & reports. There is not 20 years worth of information publically accessible.

Re: ECF may join with English Bridge Union in Judicial Review

I am not sure why ECF will want to gamble with our money. What benefits/costs will there be for those ECF represents?
Fishing requires mental skill for success. Poker and Backgammon have other costs relating to gambling.
As for elements relating to children there may be hidden additional costs.

Re: 2017/2018 Season

Nice to help out WIB get extra players in by e-mailing local leagues & clubs for Will.
Very kind to be offered to join into their meal out but I was with my team.
We (CSC) are going to miss Keith Richardson & hopefully with all games in the South we will get full teams out.

Re: Semi-Final Draw

What is not clear is whether there was any attempt to arrange the semi-final on a different weekend? I lost the argument on the weekend specified at last years U160 prelim which clashed with Great Yarmouth. We were up against Norfolk. Switched to following weekend but got very late confirmation beca...

Re: Semi-Final Draw

In the Devon v Surrey U180 only a few early draws and many games went into the 5th hour. Devon winning 8.5-7.5. A great venue & fantastic weather for analysing outside. The only thing missing was a Devon cream tea. Surrey players were hoping for a final in memory of Keith Richardson. Perhaps Mid...
