Re: USCF (and ECF) v FIDE

Not sure what point going on about past or motives. Just let the current Board get on with it. The open letter is from USCF & looks very clear to me.

Re: Division Four South 2016-17

Whilst CSC Hippos are out for round 7 we are in for round 8. That may mean another triangular match in round 8 & round 9. Not sure how that works but we will find out when we get there. As for the underdogs v Oxford 2 we may pull off a Lincoln City v Burnley result. At least one other team was s...

Re: Media comments on chess

I was saddened to see the BBC report & read the web for the inquest into the death of Michael Uriely from chronic asthma. It has been known from late 1970s that you cannot 'grow out of asthma'. I developed asthma in my teens (following hospitalisation from bronchial pneumonia). For ten years I w...

Re: Grading and Time Limits

ECF would miss 100's of thousands of matches per season Kevin. I prefer 1 game a day e.g. County rates or 4NCL rates, or London Chess Classic rates. I find 2.5 hours after a day at work & travelling too tiresome so probably perform worse. This is only made up by hospitality of opponents & so...

Re: Tips for coaching children

I've got lots of time for all that are posting here including Angus who has taught me a lot about chess too. The most frustrating thing I found on EPSCA thread was lack of resources for primary schools & parents. Nick, I'm sure you will do well with the advice from here. It is so much easier to ...

Re: 2017/2018 Season

Mike I have found the Bridge Overseas bookings awful this season. Having only normal office hours & no out of hours booking in the evenings or weekends not helpful. Mainly because I cannot make the personal calls from work. Maybe I missed something in the notes on the website. Anyway the 17/18 s...

Re: Tips for coaching children

On top of these put in Chess for Children & read through it with them. Half the issue is understanding where they are on the spectrum of reading & imagination. On teaching to notate games I used for the cubs a map reading lesson to illustrate the chess board. The most pleasurable part for me...

Re: Surrey County Junior Selectors?

SCCU competitions not a SCCA competition. Yes I am aware of these non-county arrangements. A bit unfortunate timing with U180 & U140s playing plus Surrey U14/130 on March 11 - anyway we cannot have everything. I m grateful for all the work at RJCC and Richmond Chess Club - recently spent 45 minu...

Re: ECF Finance Council Meeting April 2017

No I'm not a rep.
It clashes with the usual date of preliminary National Stage County matches.
Will be very reluctant to play if wanting to put back a week as that clashes with 4NCL final w/e where a number of players will play.
What I will miss is the live reporting on this Forum by John RIP.

Re: Surrey County Junior Selectors?

No issues with Richmond where the old parliament constituency 1965 included North Kingston - it is now Richmond Park and Kingston. On affiliation quite clear from time to time Richmond Chess Club have played chess South of the River. I doubt whether RJCC ever affiliated to SCCA. Also aware of the pa...

Re: New sponsor for british chess championship

The point is they can play & pay the fee - most will have qualified. The bulk are juniors & eligible for junior prizes, most of the rest are old gits and eligible for that. It is very similar to London Chess Classic in the fide open & on English Knock-out I'm sure that was fine too. Roge...

Re: Frimley Junior Chess Club

Primary or Secondary? Anyway the fairer funding changes were looking awful for Inner London and Outer London Schools as well as Surrey and the authorities on M4 corridor out to Reading. You have the signposts & it is usually the parent's home address that is important apart from Schools. Best to...
