Re: The bragging thread

Ouch, that must really have hurt Simon! The mutual blunders on move 49 are remarkable in a slow game, were either of you in time trouble? Perhaps we need a "blundering thread" as well as a "bragging thread" We both had a few minutes left of the rapid play finish. My king w...

Re: The bragging thread

Ask any strong player how they usually beat weaker players. They do nothing...Good players are good at doing nothing. Weaker player panic when there is nothing to do and feel they must be doing something. So off they go on some cock-eyed plan or tactic and BANG! game over. You have to remember your...

Re: A Midlands Mind Games Possibility ?

Thanks for the interest. I conceive it as everyone playing the same game at the same time. As I say is see it as a small venture to begin with. No prize money for the first one - small charge for venue, my chess club which is a very good one - and would be happy if there was only four of us ! I don'...

A Midlands Mind Games Possibility ?

OK folks I'd like to see if there is any interest in a small "Mind Games Congress" in the Midlands. My intention is that it would include Chess (of course), Draughts and Go. (Other boardgames come into consideration such as Scrabble and Backgammon....) Please feel free to add something to ...

Re: Calling All Warwickshire Players.....

Thanks for the thoughtful long reply David. I have asked the (sixteen) highest that I'm aware of and subsequently asked lower graded players as I cross off the "declines" and you have anticipated one of my next steps viz emailing individual clubs. It had occured to me that the ruthless ind...

Calling All Warwickshire Players.....

It seems that 4NCL seems to takea priority over county matches in people's affections. I'm not sure why. As far as I know county chess doesn't require an ante of £28 before you can play ! Not knocking BTW 4NCL, I like it :-) I've always liked county chess because it gives you a chance to be playing...

Re: Midlands counties in the National Stages

In other Midlands news, as reported elsewhere, Lancashire tell me they beat Warwickshire 11.5-4.5. I'm going to assume good faith on the part of the Lancashire correspondent on that one, for the time being! That's right have emailed you Alex......We were soundly beaten. An highlight for us was Henr...

Re: Draughts/Checkers and Chess

I play in what I believe is the only draughts club in the West Midlands. There's only about 12 of us. Tony Hynes, whom many of you will know is one of us. We play on Saturdays. It fits in well with when there is no chess to be played at the weekend. With have a mini league and cup competition ! :-) ...
