Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE
Ben, that would certainly be possible, although the fewer number of teams in the south west compared with the north might make it less viable. Also, Barcelo and De Vere don't have venues in the south west (apart from Barcelo Torquay, which because it gets so much tourist trade is less inclined to of...

Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE
James, that may well be the ultimate outcome. NB The 4NCL's economics (free playing space at the venues, income from bedroom booking commission etc) depend on players (not all of course, but a significant number) booking bedrooms (otherwise the venues would have no reason to offer us the preferentia...

Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE
Thanks for this Peter. Who in Yorkshire are the best people to contact? - or perhaps you could ask around to test interest? Trefor - the 4NCL venues for 2010/2011 are already set, but there is nothing to stop us looking at them again after that. The advantage of Hinckley Island in particular though ...

Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE
Thanks Mick and Bob - I'll pencil in two provisional teams! Would you two be the likely team organisers? I don't know how far ahead the Woodhouse Cup in Yorkshire agrees its dates, but if the 4NCL Northern League were held on the same weekends as the rest of the 4NCL that should hopefully help with ...

Re: 4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE
Alex/Roger, without having thought about it too deeply my instant view would be that we would probably let teams decide themselves which league they wanted to play in.

4NCL NORTHERN LEAGUE
The 4NCL are currently looking at the feasibility of setting up a 4NCL Northern League. The aim of this would be to encourage northern-based teams which may currently be reluctant to commit to the travelling times to the 4NCL's existing venues. If your team would be interested in participating, perh...

Re: Can anyone tell me why Scarbrough second biggest weekender
David, I stopped reading your masterpieces of prolixity a while back in the interests of my sanity, but a colleague of mine (who clearly has greater reserves of mental endurance than I do) referred me to your latest post on this thread. I don't have the inclination to respond to most of the stuff yo...

Re: can anyone tell me why scarbrough th second bigest weeknder
Apologies Peter - I completely missed the smiley (another sign I'm getting older). Had I noticed it I would have been less sanctimonious!

Re: can anyone tell me why scarbrough th second bigest weeknder
When booking 4NCL venues I try to avoid clashes with major events as far as possible. There are, however, so many events these days that avoiding them all is a near impossible task, particularly given that the venues we use usually have fairly restricted availabilty. I try where I can in particular ...

Re: DCMS Grant : contingency plans?
Chris Majer mentioned at the meeting that it had been received the day before (or maybe two days before - my memory is imprecise). It was certainly only shortly before the meeting though.

Re: Has the white smoke gone up yet?
Gosh, that takes me back! I didn't think it appropriate to remind Nigel of it on Saturday though! Your comments on the status of the ECF are of course correct. The ECF does indeed require that FIDE rated events in England insist that participants in those events be ECF members or members of their ow...

Re: Has the white smoke gone up yet?
Michael - just to clarify that the 4NCL is a body independent of the ECF and so is not a "strand for the ECF to look after".

Re: DCMS Grant : contingency plans?
Richard, the DCMS receive the ECF's accounts each year and have clearly drawn their own conclusions from the ECF's financial position over the last three years in particular, according to what Chris Majer told yesterday's meeting. The gist of Chris' comments was that according to the DCMS letter the...
