Live games for weekend three
Some of us may recall that Chris K started a poll for the matches to be shown live in the January weekend, and as it turned out, the most popular choices were the one selected.
Since the 4NCL site promises more live games for the February 23/24 weekend, but does not say which matches have been shown, it may be worthwhile to repeat the discussion. The first division matches are:
Round 5 - 14:00 Saturday 23rd February 2013
De Vere Venues, Staverton Park
Section A
WGHK 1 - Guildford 2
Barbican 4NCL 1 - Sambuca Sharks
Cambridge Uni 1 - Cheddleton 1
BCM Dragons - e2e4.org.uk 1
Section B
Blackthorne Russia - Guildford 1
South Wales Dragons - Jutes of Kent
White Rose 1 - WGHK 2
Barbican 4NCL 2 - Warwickshire Select 1
and then
Round 6 - 11:00 Sunday 24th February 2013
De Vere Venues, Staverton Park
Section A
Cheddleton 1 - WGHK 1
Guildford 2 - Cambridge Uni 1
e2e4.org.uk 1 - Barbican 4NCL 1
Sambuca Sharks - BCM Dragons
Section B
Guildford 1 - White Rose 1
WGHK 2 - Blackthorne Russia
Jutes of Kent - Barbican 4NCL 2
Warwickshire Select 1 - South Wales Dragons
Do we have any suggestions?

Very happy (as last time) to take account of opinions on ecforum when deciding on the live matches. I'm likely though to have limited access to the internet next week, so thoughts by the weekend would be very helpful.

Re: Live games for weekend three
Good-oh, I'll start (!)
Round 5: Wood Green 1 v Guildford 2, since Wood Green 1 still look fragile and Guildford may be motivated by the result in the "opposite" fixture between Guildford 1 and Wood Green 2
South Wales Dragons v Jutes of Kent: the biggest match for the Dragons for many years. They have two wins already in the tougher of the two pools, albeit partly courtesy of playing Wood Green 2 at the right time, and another surprise result would give them good chances of defying all expectations by qualifying for the promotion pool.
Wood Green 2 v White Rose: a must win for Wood Green 2, but what would be the consequences for the Yorkshire team which finished thrd in the previous two seasons?
Round 6: Cheddleton v Wood Green 1: Cheddleton's earlier loss to Barbican 1 is highly damaging to their chances of a top three finish at the end of the season and their best chance for redemption may be this match.
Guildford 1 v White Rose: a large part of White Rose's "secret" in finishing third in the last two seasons has been its win over Guildford 1 in both seasons.
Jutes of Kent v Barbican 2: Assuming the Jutes get past the Dragons, the winner of this match is likely thereby to play in the championship pool again. Last year's fixture was a hard fought 4-4 draw.

Ben has put in a request for BCM v Sambuca Sharks as they haven't been on the live boards yet this season and it's also a key relegation battle.

Re: Live games for weekend three
Fair enough - certainly every team in the first division should be on the live boards at least once. maybe that could take the place of Jutes v Barbican 2; actually, now I think about it, Jutes have been on the live boards twice already ...

Re: Live games for weekend three
I wanted the Sharks featured this weekend. We have played some very interesting matches this season and in respect to viewing, we are not one of the sides guilty of 4-5 <25 move agreed draws.
As much as I'd like to see us on the demo boards at all costs , getting smashed by Barbican 1 is not fun for any spectator. We will be outgraded 250 FIDE points per board and expected to get 1.5-2 points out of 8.
Worth noting that we play our best chess on the Saturday due to 'social factors' also.
id like to see:
White Rose 1 V WGHk2
Cambridge 1 V Cheddleton
On Sunday Id like to see
BCM V Sharks
Jutes of Kent V Barbican 2
Cheddleton V WGHK1

BCM would be very happy to pick up the Sharks various bar tabs for Saturday night / Sunday morning but I suspect we could not afford them.Ben Purton wrote: Worth noting that we play our best chess on the Saturday due to 'social factors' also.

Re: Live games for weekend three
I see the results for the 4NCL from round 5 for division 3 are available:
http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div3_20 ... 3s-rd5.htm
Couple of very close matches there.
I see round 5 results where games are finished for division 1b, and 2b:
http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div1_20 ... 1b-rd5.htm
http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div2_20 ... 2b-rd5.htm
But nothing for round 5 for 1a and 2a:
http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div1_20 ... 1a-rd5.htm
http://www.4ncl.livechess.co.uk/div2_20 ... 2a-rd5.htm
Am I looking in the wrong place?
EDIT: Stupid caching system. I hit F5 (refresh) and the results are there.
