Final weekend reports
John Saunders' report on the final weekend is now on the 4NCL website, as are reports by John Carleton (Spirit of Atticus) and Stephen Kee (Ferry 'Cross the Maroczy).

Re: Final weekend reports
This is my article from today's Guardian. Not to be compared with John Saunders's brilliant magnum opus, of course, but I am interested to know if there is a definitive answer to the question posed in my first paragraph: was this the strongest ever UK inter-club match?

Re: Final weekend reports
The highest rated matches, to the best of my knowledge, in some of the previous years:
2013/ 14 Wood Green av. 2647 v Guildford av. 2656
2012/13: Wood Green av. 2627 v Guildford av. 2647.
2011/12: Wood Green and Guildford met early on and by the last round the respective averages were >2600.
2010/11: Wood Green av. 2550 v Pride and Prejudice 2552 was the highest- rated, I think.
2009/10: Wood Green av. 2570 v P & P 2519.
2008/9: Wood Green 2509 v Guildford 2537
2007/8: no results stand out. Guildford were the strongest teams but at best were just over 2500.
2006/7: Guildford were the only team averaging 2500 at any point, I believe.
2005/6: Wood Green 2670 v Guildford 2617, Wood Green 2586 v Slough Sharks 2529
2004/5: Wood Green 2640 v Guildford 2588
2003/4: Guildford 2507 v Wood Green 2584
2002/3: Guildford 2522 v Wood Green 2557

Re: Final weekend reports
At the time, the Slough v Wood Green match from May 2000 was publicised as the highest rated ever.benedgell wrote:The highest rated matches, to the best of my knowledge, in some of the previous years:
Retrieving the result, shows it was a relatively modest by more recent standards 2531 v 2562

To complete the picture, the May 2001 weekend featured Wood Green v Beeson Gregory at 2571 against 2549 thus outranking it.
So it looks from Ben's research as if Wood Green themselves have fielded a higher rated team, but this season's match was the highest across both teams.
