Anyone could have worked out there'd be a legal pairing in three rounds time.Alex McFarlane wrote:The given arrangements also ensure that there is at least one rd 8 pairing possible!!!

Doesn't the Northern league merge with Div3S after round 6?Alex McFarlane wrote:The given arrangements also ensure that there is at least one rd 8 pairing possible!!!

That's why round 8 is easy, else it'd be very tricky indeed
He meant round 6 by which time the swiss between not many teams with three of them in a triangular becomes rather strained......

Re: 4NCL North 2014-15
Pairings managed happily Bradford suffered a little from the triangle etc I guess, but at least they've got ahead of their second team! Manchester 1 look to have their work cut out to manage the same
You can see Mick's point from a few posts back about the way that a few weaker teams might be welcome. Its very nice to see juniors about, but poor Cheddleton 3 got to 0/4 but were then 'rewarded' with ties against really quite solid Jorvik/Spirit 2 teams.
This season I guess it'll be ok - you have to imagine that they'll win a few once the merger happens If Div3N wasn't going to merge though, they'd have nothing but really quite tough matches left. Could easily be enough to discourage or maybe drive them to Division 4 instead.

I have no idea what happens if our 2nd team finishes (ahead of our 1st) in a promotion spot - not impossible as we should be strengthening for the next weekend

Re: 4NCL North 2014-15
Surely you'd get to realign the two teams? Being forced to play your top 6 in Div3 would be more than a bit daft Maybe you could rename the second team something like 'Manchester (Lancashire branch)'
MM2 are a very solid set of players but promotion must be a bit of an outside shot with 5 teams ahead, 3 level and MM1 taking the top 6.
Wouldn't have predicted this specific table! Still with so many teams playing from ~180 down to ~160 some sort of pile up on +- 50 per cent was always relatively likely.

The first attempt at the pairings, last week, failed due to a card-marking error. *oblig. manual pairing moan* A few days later, both Dave T and Alex independently had another go at the pairings.
I can't speak for Alex, but Dave's criteria were:
* Not giving a triangular to teams that have already played in a triangular
* Not giving the triangular to the three Bradford teams, as Alex says
* Something else that Dave T explained, but I can't remember, but didn't strike me as unreasonable at the time.
And both Alex and Dave T came up with the same pairings; apparently the inter-Mancunian round 5 pairing being forced.
Thanks for this
I assume the pairings for the merged round 7 are relatively simple now - do you happen to know when they will be out?

You've beaten Loz for the honour of being the first person to ask me that for the next weekend.Mick Norris wrote:I assume the pairings for the merged round 7 are relatively simple now - do you happen to know when they will be out?
According to DT, "sometime this week".

I see the draw has managed to contrive a NE Yorkshire derby for Jorvik
(Always possible with Leeds OB in 3S of course.).

Yes, I noticed that, amazing how these things happen - we played 3Cs 2 in previous seasons
Will be interesting to see how the N v S matches go - good luck to all the northern teams
