Whatever happens, I hope that teams can make the trip again next season, with an enhanced entry from other areas...for 4NCL `North`...
Travelwise, its 5 weekend meetings a year, so not too demanding, but teams need to have fairly good support squads, to ensure they can put out regular teams..
I presume those flying in have considered Manchester Airport as an option...maybe even a shared limo to the venues.. although a stretch limo doesn't come cheap.! But travelling on the Friday night for a two day w/e break does have its attractions... and the venues do offer very good playing conditions, and surroundings... and the chance of some good `socials`.

Mike, sorry that wasn't a hint and it wasn't a criticism either

Of course it wasn't. I just feel a bit guilty about how long it's all taken, even if most of the delay has been out of my hands.

Alba are definitely the biggest reason I think MM1 are favourites ahead of Bradford just now, but maybe they'll have relaxed by round 11 :)

Just for a change, here's a bit of amusing chess. Variation from my game on Saturday. Black to play and get arrested for using computer help! It doesn't win, or even quite save equality but its very definitely the best move as per Stockfish.

If it's the insane move I think it is then it would have made for an entertaining post mortem :D

Sounds right :) We were confused enough trying to post mortem the actual game!

'Just' a Nxe4 and d5 trick in that case, which I hadn't even noticed(!) but didn't work too well for black. (although only really bad after a later slip.).

Might need to review my comments on Alba's prospects and travel plans in the light of imminent announcements. Not just Alba's either

Except for round 8 of div 3 N, all the recent games are available at the 4NCL site. Setting up a line of play to reach the diagram and asking for engine suggestions, it was .. Bxg2 by Black with the reply Bxf7+ in response. The general taking each others pieces working out in White's favour supposedly.

The fun was meant to be in guessing it, but it an amusing move to admire too! The basic justification seems to be the 'obvious' Kxg2 Qxc4 QxQ Ne3 x c4.

Well, black has so many bits en prise its mostly a major miracle that it isn't just utterly lost :) Stockfish prefers to go exf6, but I think various things work reasonably well for white.

Hope the travel news isn't too bad.

Best wait. It could be 'life-changing' for 4NCL, at least for the immediate future

I have to admit 3Cs will be seriously reviewing our participation next season, the movement down south was the main reason of the withdrawal from the league previously.

I have to laugh on the attachment sent that they are calling it Division 1/2 Regional, considering next season there is likely to be 7 teams who are based north of the M62 (3Cs, Atticus, White Rose 1&2, North East, and likely Alba and Manchester/Bradford) competing in Div 1/2, then to be truely regional it would have to be wholly in the Midlands or have at least one weekend further north.

Before comitting to next season, I would like strong guarantees that all 2017/2018 season will revert back to wholly Midland based hotels.

For anybody commuting to Wokefield will find it a nightmare to get to on public transport, miles from civilization, the last time I played there I had to spend £30 just getting from Reading station on the Friday (have to travel that day, unless you want a 4 hour journey before a game)

Having now seen the detail, I can see just how tough it has been

I'll be really interested in seeing what responses you get, and indeed in what you manage to negotiate for 2017/18

Good luck, and thanks again for all your hard work
