It would be nice to know what's going on, as the latest entry list (9 Oct) no longer shows the 3rd team entry in Division 3.
So it's just e2e4 failing to pay an entry fee. I thought e2e4 and 4ncl were mates.

(edit) There's quite a large squad of amateur players under the e2e4 banner. It's insulting to leave them in the dark as to whether they will playing in this season's 4NCL.

Big BAD news on the way - though good news for some.

e2-e4 pull all teams. That's a lot of disappointed, faffed about, players. Faffed about other teams too, if hotels have been booked.

We might consider a late entry application (in Division 4 only) if any of the former e2e4 players wanted to band together under another name.

So that's:

SW Dragons back to Div 1
BCM Dragons & Rhyl Wysiwyg back to Div 2

and heaven knows who into Div 3S

Apart from the poor saps associated with e2e4, the biggest dump has been on BCM & the Welsh guys who may now be too late for hotels. Was orderly conduct too much to expect?

It goes beyond that. They also need a seventh player, which might not be too difficult if they have a loyal squad. The greater difficulty could easily be the recruitment of a junior or female player, since if the incumbents desired second division chess, they may already have left.

With about sixty e2e4 players now homeless, I can't believe that finding new names is likely to be a problem.

Your sentiment is to be applauded but who are "Rhyl Wysiwyg"? Our team is mainly from South Wales so forget any reference to Rhyl. I am not sure where you got the second word from! :)

If interested, the name refers back to an ancient race of warlike people from South Wales who resisted the Romans. I admit I am no expert though.

Paul, welcome to this forum and your first post.

Had you been round here for a longer time you would be used to the comments above from the acerbic wit and occasionally wisdom of Mr Robertson.

Welcome indeed, Paul. And please forgive my little joke. As you might imagine, some of us find it hard getting our tongues around Welsh, and you've long been known, affectionately, among my colleagues as 'Rhyl Wysiwyg' for want of the correct pronunciation. Moreover, when typing my post, I didn't have your team name to hand, so used 'our' name for you instead. Which brings me to one aspect of our name for you, namely: we know you're not from Rhyl - that's why it amuses us. You're from South Wales. But in this topsy-turvy world, the guys from Rhyl and thereabouts in North Wales call themselves South Wales Dragons. So 'Rhyl Wysiwyg' perversely you may remain, at least until you surround us, pint in hand one night, and bash into us how to pronounce and spell your real name!

That sounds like a good offer

It does show how vulnerable chess teams/events are when they rely on just 1 person, perhaps a warning (which won't be heeded  ) to players not to leave everything to someone else

It's not good, I'm afraid, if what was billed as the first piece of computer software engineering pornography (for expressing those subversive truths about software engineering we all secretly believe in) Real Programmers don't use Pascal says is true.
Real Programmers don't use Pascal wrote: The problem with these editors is that Real Programmers consider "what you see is what you get" to be just as bad a concept in Text Editors as it is in women. No the Real Programmer wants a "you asked for it, you got it" text editor - complicated, cryptic, powerful, unforgiving, dangerous. TECO, to be precise.

It has been observed that a TECO command sequence more closely resembles transmission line noise than readable text
Hands up anyone who calls their wife "TECO"?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Wysiwyg is an acronym from the earlier days of personal computing.

It stands for "What you see is What you get". In the pre Windows era in particular, you would only see what a text/word processor would produce as output by actually printing it. Wysiwyg was one of the advantages of a GUI (graphical user interface) as distinct from a CLI (command line interface).

I asked a genuine welsh speaker about the name and he said it translated literally into Gwent Dragons - I kind of like that name(in english)

I am afraid it is not accurate. Rhyfelwyr should be translated as soldier or warrior in English. Dragon is draig as in the (now defunct) Welsh chess magazine "Y Ddraig".

Essyllwg refers back to an ancient kingdom of Wales and I don't think it coincides with exactly Gwent but is in that area. Welsh historians will be able to opine more effectively. However, your version is better than the previous effort in this chain!

Mike has take the time to let BCM know what is happening, & the management let us know.
We have been thinking NOs with all at Telford an issue. Will see how that pans out.
Personally travelling that far will be inclined to continue into Snowdonia for some mountain walking. Birmingham is closer to the South.

Must be hotels south - those some big Opens in late 70s were played in Hammersmith - they are still there - some cheap places too.
