Re: e2e4 High Wycombe Congress : 7-9 October
What an amazing performance from Alex, defeating both Keith Arkell ande Mark Hebden. Has anybody ever beaten both of these two in a weekend congress before?
Re: e2e4 High Wycombe Congress : 7-9 October
Certainly not in an e2e4 event. In fact, I think it's the first 5/5 in an e2e4 Open since Mark Hebden at Milton Keynes in Nov 2008.

I can only think of Tony Miles at Sandwell 1992 (yes, I did need to look it up!) and Ameet Ghasi years ago in the British Rapidplay in the last two rounds when he won it jointly with Aaron Summerscale.Matthew Turner wrote:What an amazing performance from Alex, defeating both Keith Arkell ande Mark Hebden. Blimey, Sandwell had a chess congress? Where was that held?LozCooper wrote:I can only think of Tony Miles at Sandwell 1992 (yes, I did need to look it up!) and Ameet Ghasi years ago in the British Rapidplay in the last two rounds when he won it jointly with Aaron Summerscale.Matthew Turner wrote:What an amazing performance from Alex, defeating both Keith Arkell ande Mark Hebden. Several different venues, the Harry Mitchell Centre was one and then they downsized to a couple of smaller venues. It used to have a fairly high multiple on the Grand Prix and had many titled players who played including Miles, Sadler, Hebden, Arkell, King, Kosten, Harriet Hunt, Collinson, Buckley, Susan Lalic, Lawton, Baker etcAlex Holowczak wrote:Blimey, Sandwell had a chess congress? I'm not sure how long it ran for but I played between 1984-94.

Just a marathon rook ending against KeithSean Hewitt wrote:That's a long game. Adjourned?LozCooper wrote:I'm not sure how long it ran for but I played between 1984-94.
Bizarrely, I did manage to adjourn one game despite it being a rapidplay finish, due to a faulty clock and the caretaker kicking us out
