Bxe6 here for white :(!
I love sleep, I need 8 hours a day and about 10 at night - Bill Hicks
I would die happy if I beat Wood Green in the Eastman Cup final - Richmond LL captain.

Things are certainly not what they were. I would try (Bxf5) Rf8 for Black, intending to meet Rxe6 with Nd3 (Bxd3 Qxg5).

White's got threats on g8 as well as on the a1-h8 diagonal. After Bxe6 Nd3 Qc2!! picks up the knight.

Maybe Peter was a little hasty in taking on c2? Or at least, his b3, Nb4 excavation plan.

I saw this too, but he missed it!

Not that it mattered in the end. :(

On the live boards tomorrow:
14) Peter Poobalasingam (ENG, 2332) v Jan Markos (SVK, 2556)
16) Milos Roganovic (SRB, 2497) v Vedantha Kumar (ENG, 1983)

Anyone here a fan of the English pairing rule that means you keep apart two players from the same club (where possible)? Well, the Swiss apparently aren't, the draw for the English players in the female event:
15) Sarah Hegarty (ENG, 2084) v Hannah Dale (ENG, 1779)

Great that they've spent £100s getting there just to play each other. They could have played this game somewhere in the west country...

It doesn't really beat the pairing Alan Walton v Adam Ashton in the ACT (Amsterdam) tournament in 2006

We have known each other for over 20 years, live only 1 mile apart, and play for the same club, we were also sharing a room at the same tournament

Personally, playing somebody from the club should only be avoided in Rd 1, after that it is tough luck

The other problem with this though is that there's a team aspect built in; the top 2 male scores and top female score count (because there are 57 men, 37 women, which is greater than 1.5:1). At the moment, UK is exceeding expectations, we're on 4/9 (which will be at least 5/12 tomorrow because of this pairing). Peter and Vedantha are on 1.5 each, and Sarah and Hannah are on 1, so it doesn't matter which of the girls' scores we drop.

I like the idea of keeping them apart; in this case, Hannah could quite easily have swapped with the player below her, and it wouldn't have made much difference. It would have made a difference to the team score though; UK would have avoided getting a free point by having two players from our country play each other!

Which itself doesn't beat the Round 1 pairing from one of the Groningen tournaments I played in some years ago of G. Shahade v J. Shahade (teenage brother and sister from the USA).

Or from round 2 of Gibraltar this year: D.Fridman v A.Zatonskih (husband and wife, although easy to miss as they have different surnames and different nationalities).

Hannah and Peter both won this morning. Peter has a TRP of 2471, and has played 5 games against titled opposition already completed, so he's well on the way to an IM norm.

He's on the live boards this afternoon:
14) Peter Poobalasingam (ENG, 2332) v Pouria Danini (IRI, 2430)

Interesting position, Peter seems to be winning material. 22.Qg2 surprised me, I was expecting exf6 or Bxh5 and was trying to decide which one I'd plump for if I was White and then Peter played something completely different!
