My live games are working fine, I think Peter is comfortably level.

Probably just me or my laptop then. They're back now, and at move 28 I'd say that Peter is "clearly slightly better" as Ljubo would have said.

Quite gone now. Bit of a rush to the head with ...e5 and ...g5.
The norm is still in reach, if he composes himself for this afternoon's game.

... and happily he did! He beat his second IM of the event, and by my reckoning he might have his second norm even if he loses tomorrow (against a 2466).

Yes, agreed, a norm is in the bag - quite a performance
Re: World Universities' Chess Championship
Yes, the norm is safe. His average over the 9 rounds is 2460 and I don't need to consult the handbook to know that 4.5/9 is sufficient against that average. Of course it'll be nice to get a result tomorrow especially as being half or more over can come in useful with future title claims as well as imrpvoing his rating to get him nearer to 2400.Jonathan Rogers wrote:... and happily he did! A great result for Peter and a big thank you to Alex Holowczak for awakening university chess in England and getting us involved in the event.

Agreed, I think it is important that the UK is represented at this event and Alex and has done a great job.
It looks to me like Peter P is doing well again too.

I think he has just ruined it with 30...f3? Now 31.g4 causes trouble (31...Rf8 32.Bxh6!).

This is the first time my name has ever been mentioned in a newspaper, and despite visiting various supermarkets and newsagents where I am at the moment (Hounslow), I can't get a copy.

The weekend edition is on sale on Sundays, too. Try a newsagent in or near a larger station. Failing which, pm a postal address before this Friday.Alex Holowczak wrote:This is the first time my name has ever been mentioned in a newspaper, and despite visiting various supermarkets and newsagents where I am at the moment (Hounslow), I can't get a copy.

Is Royal Mail, Sasha Golubczuk, more reliable than pigeon post? The toy was posted at about 7:30 am on Tuesday and should now be in darkest Worcester.
