A nice win by David Hart, one of my AMCA 4NCL team mates.

Summerscale hangs on grimly to rook versus rook and bishop : the chess equivalent of Chinese water torture
Must re-read "Secrets of Pawnless Endings" on how to attempt to draw this ending!

According to the live games display, Turner has 4 seconds left when the draw was agreed.LozCooper wrote:102 Rg2/h2 Kc8 103 Rb2 would have put him out of his miseryJohn Upham wrote:Summerscale hangs on grimly to rook versus rook and bishop : the chess equivalent of Chinese water torture
If that's correct, I would imagine that 102 Rg2/h2 Kc8 103 Rb2 Rxe5+ still draws.

Re: British Rapid Play
I don't get what was wrong with 73. g6 in Hebden-Turner. Seemed to win far more quickly than this line... (which probably still wins anyway)

Re: British Rapid Play
It's eleven rounds, right? So Howell is 1.5 points ahead with 2 rounds to go. A win or draw will see him win. He is the defending champion, isn't he?LozCooper wrote: Howell 8.5

Re: British Rapid Play
Amusing finish to Haslinger-Hebden, if one looks at Hebden-Turner from the previous round first
Re: British Rapid Play
I noticed that . I also thought Gawain might be defending the ending he had against Matt from round 6 at one stage!Richard Bates wrote:Amusing finish to Haslinger-Hebden, if one looks at Hebden-Turner from the previous round first

Re: British Rapid Play
If the transmission is right, and given the opening it should be, Palliser beat Hebden. That's a bit of a surprise result, isn't it?

Re: British Rapid Play
Only "a bit" - at most. It hardly compares with the hilarious Woolley v Jones.
I don't think Howell played this event last year, but he seems on course for two results to the amount of 10.5/11, in 2010 and 2008: extraordinary!

Oh dear.
Howell got 9/11 last year which I guess must have been slightly disappointing relatively speaking. 10.5/11 two years out of three is still phenomenal.
