Congratulations to GM Luke McShane on winning this strong event outright with an unbeaten 3.5/5. He ground down van Wely in the final round while his other two Dutch rivals agreed a quick draw.

Not to take anything away from McShanes good result, as they all count but in the van Wely game the strange looking line 66. gxf5+ Kxf5 67.Kg3! Rxf2 68. Ra1! draws for White I think.
Correct was probably the even stranger f5 a move earlier than played ie 64. ... f5, then liquidate leaving a win with better pawns.

Without increments though it is unlikely the result would have been any different. The fast time limit and two game a day schedule certainly makes it hard to play highly accurate chess which makes Luke's result even better as he tends to rely on having the 30 second increment for large parts of his games
