But rounds at 18:00? Is it an after work thing?
Programme is here:

The times do jump around a bit. Not sure why.

Early at weekend; 19:00 in the week. I've never seen a fide event in the evening before. I suppose is about spectators.

I think I could win it now.

Nikolic seems to be won now too. I thought he would be barely hanging on when queens came off.

South Wales was doing something similar this week with some days having one round starting at 5 to minimise time off work. Some tournaments do start very late in Europe but this sseems later than most.

Unlikely I would think. More to do with players being able to play after work.

There were tournaments alongside the Turin Olympiad where the rounds, apart from the double round day, started at 7pm. With a move rate of 120 30, this meant games didn't finish until after midnight. It did mean that local players could take part.

Two years later in Dresden, the parallel amateur tournaments started at 8 am or 8.30 am.

Possibly. But a tough schedule for a player, even if they worked close to the venue.

David is black against Tiviakov today and about 20 moves played so far

Step up in class, no one would choose black against Tiviakov. Looks at this stage like David will be under some pressure.

Yes it's a tough pairing or a good test depending on your point of view. From memory Jonathan Hawkins held Tiviakov with black in the 4NCL but that was another day, another tournament.

David is white against GM Erik van den Doel in the last round, 20 moves played so far.

1 GM Tiviakov, Sergei 6.5 NED 2623 GM Nikolic, Predrag 7.0 BIH 2629
2 GM Howell, David W L 6.0 ENG 2625 GM Van Den Doel, Erik 6.0 NED 2574
3 GM Van Der Wiel, John T.H. 6.0 NED 2451 GM Polak, Tomas 6.0 CZE 2540

There are 8 players on 5.5, so we can probably expect David to have a serious attempt at winning.

Nikolic, who is one of my favourite players despite his stubborn refusal to be English, is defending his title.

David's position looking promising. Tiviakov likely to beat Nikolic
