Congratulations also to Ameet Ghasi who drew this morning to secure his third and final IM norm. He already has the rating so should be confirmed as an IM soon.

What's up with Klaric? Does he want a lower Elo?

His game against Steve Burke this morning lasted just as long - illness?

Yeah, that's what I thought - two 1 move draws. But surely withdraw if that ill?! And no disrespect, but a 400 point gap on his opponents too.

But if he withdrew then certain players will not be eligible for norms, if they still could achieve them and that would be totally unfair

Jack's game is typically weird, but he looks a lot worse to me now. I had been looking at 13 Kb2 Qd1 14 Qg7 but I had hardly worked out those moves were legal when after about 30 seconds (!) Jack played 13 Kc2.

It's not like a Croatian GM to take quick draws

In Jack's game, it seemed to me that 17 ... Bf5 18 Kb2 Na4 19 Ka1 Nc5 gave a very big plus to Black. Extra pawn, safer King and big N on c5. Black is still much better in the game but the two bishops might still say something.

Oh dear Jack's game seems to have ended in a premature draw. Mind you, if you are on 0/8 you probably don't have much faith in your judgment anymore and well done to Dominic for getting on the scoreboard.

Out Croation friend basically decided he'd rather go sightseeing in London than play. He approached both of his opponents with draw offers which were accepted. Had either wanted to play, he would have played. If he had withdrawn, he would not have got paid!

Florian Gheorghiu is alive and well and playing in Sean's tournaments.

Oh dear, kiss of death. Just a complete blunder.

Never mind, 8/9 is amazing!

To continue the theme from another thread, maybe he was put off by you mis-spelling his name?

That would explain why I lose a lot. People are always missing the 's' from the end of my name.

That plus I'm not very good, of course.
