Mobilus interuptus.
Can you let me have the numbers of his remaining five opponents?

Excellent coverage again, Sean. Many thanks!

Slightly surprised that Alan Merry didn't resign after White's 29th or at the latest after White managed to find 31 Bf6! Playing 31 Be4ch would make me rather annoyed if I was White.

Eggleston-Rudd has now reached R v R and Knight - with Jack having the extra bit and an hour on the clock.

Highly amusing but not if you are Eggleston D.

Better and better. Compton-Miezes is going to be R and B v R. Hope you are not planning on an early night, Sean!

Eggleston-Rudd drawn by 50 move rule - or, in this case, 49 move rule. In some ways, David might be pleased it was Jack he was playing in this ending. I can imagine some players using all their extra hour - it might be a trivial draw but not if you need to go the toilet. Anyway, David can now have a pint!

In the R and B v R ending, it depends entirely on whether Compton knows one of the two defences. If he doesn't, he'll never hold it on increments. Even if he does, he might not.

I really hope 88 Rf5 wasn't played.

I'm afraid that it really was, and Alistair resigned immediately he did it.

Thanks for the live games.

Can you explain the abrupt end of Merry v Madan in Round 4? (W: Ka4, Rb6, Pa5: B Kc7, Qc5; W to play)

Black still has a lot of work to do here; the Nalimov tablebase indicates a win in 26 moves.

Yes. White resigned.

Agreed. I haven't spoken to Alan [Merry] but I asked this very question of Madan last night (I'd also looked it up in the tablebases). He guessed he may not want to play on for a long time with a tough game to come in the afternoon - but it was just that, a guess.

Congratulations to Peter Roberson whose victory this afternoon gives him an IM norm with 2 rounds to spare. Is he going to do a Yang Fan?
