In Bennett-Hawkins after 26.g3, they've reached a typically harmless middlegame, nearly endgame position that I can more or less guarantee that Hawkins will win, I've seen him do it so many times.
Milson-Nelson 26...Rxh3 - White looks toast to me. But then again, I've been known for getting evaluations embarassingly wrong on this forum before...

That's if the Indian wedding next door doesn't burst his eardrums beforehand.Andrew Bak wrote:In Bennett-Hawkins after 26.g3, they've reached a typically harmless middlegame, nearly endgame position that I can more or less guarantee that Hawkins will win, I've seen him do it so many times.

I'm guessing there would've been no need for anyone to bring a McDonalds into the hotel then!Sean Hewitt wrote:That's if the Indian wedding next door doesn't burst his eardrums beforehand.Andrew Bak wrote:In Bennett-Hawkins after 26.g3, they've reached a typically harmless middlegame, nearly endgame position that I can more or less guarantee that Hawkins will win, I've seen him do it so many times.

It did, and there was lots of it! Sadly it was a case of looking and not touching (or eating). I did notice a couple wondering in who looked like they were just looking to see what this chess lark was all about. And I seemed to have somehow ended up on one of the live boards for round 2. Wonder how many people watch these games... (PS. Geoff, have a look at my Round 1 game, I think it relates to what you said in an earlier post about putting a bishop on c4 and what to do about the ...Nxe4 tactic.)Sean Hewitt wrote:The food smells fantastic!

Re: e2e4 Hinckley Congress
Goodness. Not sure if that is a lot or a vanishingly small amount. I bet not many people watching the games get beyond the top few boards with the GMs and IMs... I had harboured hopes that I'd get a chance to play one of the titled players, but (rather annoyingly) they have mostly remained on 100% (Hawkins, Arkell and Ghasi all on 3/3, with Hawkins beating one of the other IMs in round 3). Still, I get a second crack at the live boards, hopefully doing better than my round 2 game. I'm still not convinced all the games get watched though, probably with good reason...Sean Hewitt wrote:Yesterday, 215 people didChristopher Kreuzer wrote: And I seemed to have somehow ended up on one of the live boards for round 2. I was one of the 449. Many thanks for the coverage. Unfortunately some malfunction stopped me seeing the conclusion to fellow Notts player Richard Truman's game late yesterday afternoon.Sean Hewitt wrote: There were 449 unique visitors to the live games yesterday!

Sean - excellent live coverage once again. One thing that always surprises me is the positions that some people appear to be prepared to play on. Perhaps they've got nothing better to do until the next round.
