Jersey Chess Festival 2013

Post by Adam Raoof » Wed Mar 06, 2013 3:01 pm

I'm told that the organisers have invested in a couple of DGT boards and will be broadcasting the top two games from the Masters here;

http://www.jerseychessclub.com

We have a strong entry, with four strong GMs - Krasenkov and Rozentalis, Rausis and our own Mark Hebden. The chasing field includes IM Lawrence Trent.

Peak rating wasn't 2567 either. FIDE and Wikipedia don't go back further than 2000.

Due to unexpectedly high demand to watch Justin Hadi's game, we had a technical hiccup! Now fixed, though we might have to pay for extra bandwidth on the server...

With all due respect to the competitors, if there is a chasing field at all then it is Lawrence Trent ...

I think Lawrence was playing in the hope of pursuing a GM norm - but as far as I can work out that's not possible even if he plays the strongest possible field.

Anyone else unable to access the live games? I'm being re-directed to another page.

PS a selection of photos are here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/adamraoof/

Brendan O'Gorman is taking photos and they'll appear soon

Lawrence Trent now writes a blog for chess.com

http://www.chess.com/blog/LawrenceTrent ... ing-cherry

and is going to be writing about the Festival.

Dates for 2014, provisionally, 12th March for five days

Out of interest why is this event not on the ECF calendar, when Guernsey is?

My guess would be that Guernsey made a successful application to be an ECF-graded event, and Jersey didn't.
