And what for norm purposes is a frustrating 2588 performance. He could have done with a last-round opponent 100 or so points higher-rated.Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Looks like Hawkins came joint 1st with 7/9:

He could have had Arkell if Braun withdrew before the final round...IM Jack Rudd wrote:He could have done with a last-round opponent 100 or so points higher-rated.

I suppose it doesn't help that the highest-rated player was 2556 (German GM Braun who beat Hawkins and also got 7/9), with the other GMs being 2472, 2508, and 2507. I had thought about asking at the start of the tournament if a GM norm was on the cards, and looking at the field had assumed not. You have to essentially play all the GMs and beat all of them, I think, with maybe a couple of draws. Braun's performance wasn't over 2600 either. An IM norm seems more likely, but maybe no-one got that either. Eric Vaarala of Sweden looks to have come closest (he played six titled players), but seems to have fallen short of the 2450 TPR requirement (2409). I presume a last round win would have done it for him? He lost, ironically enough, to Hawkins.IM Jack Rudd wrote:And what for norm purposes is a frustrating 2588 performance.
