He's going to run into the same problem at the British with his first round opponent likely to be a low rated IM. He might get a break later like Adams at Sheffield, if the acceleration allows a bottom half player to sneak into a leading score after three rounds. Otherwise, as top seed, he's always likely to get the toughest opposition as David Howell did at Torquay 2009 when Gawain was the second seed.
