This seven round event starts in Rhodes tomorrow. The three English representatives are Barbican 4NCL (accepting nomination for the first time since 2008), White Rose (who have played every year since 2009) and Jutes of Kent (making their second appearance, after enjoying Simon Williams' win over Gelfand last year; also, sadly, their last appearance since they have not re-entered 4NCL this season).

None of the three English teams are at full strength and all are in the second half of the draw. If you want to glance in horror at the strength of the top teams, you may do so here:

Jutes and Barbican are both thrown into the fire in the first round. Jutes play second seed Malachite, for whom Bologan (2670) is listed at board eight. They must decide which of their top three players (Grischuk, Karjakin or Morozevich) should play S K Williams. (Matches are over six boards, and each team may nominate up to eight players). Barbican only have it marginally easier, playing third seeds St Petersburg who have only a 2651 player on board eight.

If the live games are working at all, both these English teams should be playing on them. Hopefully, not temporarily (we must hope). The link is here:
