Hi Chess fans!

I work for a UK film distributor, Dogwoof, and we are currently working on the release of the documentary, Bobby Fischer Against the World which is out in UK cinemas on the 15th July 2011. Bobby Fischer Against the World traces the Grand Master from child prodigy to Cold War hero to controversial recluse. Cutting interviews with Bobby and the people who knew him, with footage and news reports, Bobby Fisher Against the World is a mesmerising portrait of the rise and bizarre fall of one of the great American icons.

The film has had some great early reviews, and with Magnus Carlsen himself turning up at our first press screening its looking to be a huge release. The reason I am posting is to invite you to head over to the films Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/bobbyfischermovie for all the latest news and general chess banter. We will be holding some very exciting competitions as well soon, so its worth giving us a like. You may also be interested in becoming a Dogwoof Ambassador, as you would be able to hold your own screening of the film at your local chess club - see the ECF post here for more details http://www.englishchess.org.uk/?p=10607

Any questions about the release just shout!

This is very interesting. Not certain about the claim that he was a great American icon, the US Government still had a warrant issued for his arrest, at the time of his death.
Will see if I can interest my local club in a screening.

I suspect he was a great American icon, but this status was lost long before his death. Certainly during his match with Spassky he would have been pretty iconic

Travel back in time to 1972 and take a straw poll on this topic.

There's an interview with Liz Garbus on the latest Guardian Film Weekly podcast.

You can download it for free - http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/series/filmweekly

It's roughly the last 10 minutes.
