New blog by ex BCM Editor

Post by Roger de Coverly » Sat Aug 13, 2011 10:51 am

A former editor of the BCM has a new blog at http://stevegiddinschessblog.wordpress.com/

Unusually for a blog, comments aren't welcome.

While I appreciate his desire to not be the subject of abuse, disabling comments on your blog doesn't prevent you from acquiring it, merely from having the abuse where you can see it.

I think the logical conclusion of that line of thinking is not to publish at all.

It will be interesting how much he can manage to post without acknowledgement of the source of his information

His blog post on the t-shirt controversy is interesting. The Wotava endgame study is good as well, slightly spoilt by the fact that it can be solved in seconds (as I did) by playing the silliest move on the board (which is, of course, the only way to win). As for the proposals to ensure all games have a result (i.e. no draws), that's been published in a few places now (not just Shipov, but Rustam Kasimdzhanov as well, and deserves a thread of its own here.

There are other forumites who publish. Perhaps they could comment on the level of abuse they receive? I'm wondering if this is a general problem or is it just for this blogger?

We have one serial spammer whose comments are all about goats. Some of them are actually quite amusing. We have comment moderation for that reason though.

All criticism is welcome at RTK.

I am finding this blog a Curates egg.

This chess content is good, and well written despite the prolixity. I'll try to stick with it and ignore the Richard Littlejohn style opinion pieces.
