Sorry to bump this old thread again, but Forum contributor John Saunders has a piece about chess in Guyana in his revived BCM blog. Hopefully this is a sign things are looking up for chess there once more. Rejoining FIDE soon?

As I recall, third world countries are exempt from FIDE affiliation fees.
