Not sure there'll be a time scramble in this one, 19. dc6 Qc6 20. Nd5 looks horrible for Black.

Edit: not played, maybe Black is ok again now. I suppose you had to see the trick 19. dc6 Qc6 20. Nd5 Nc7 (only move, I think) 21. Bg7! (f4 first might be stronger), but it's not an especially difficult line.
After 21. Bxg7 Bxg7 what happens?

The woodland animal further down is providing a fine example of how long the complications can sustain themselves in those positions. Online comp had Storey seemingly winning on move 40, but 40.. d5 was such a natural move. Back to hugely messy it seems.

David's time handling has cost him here. Qxh7 was almost as bad as my terrible analysis in this thread.

He'd lost control by then anyway, at least I don't see a decent move. 23...g5 was nice from Nick.

What's the idea after 24. Qf5 Rg8?

"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Must be 24 Qf5 Rg8 25. Rf3, but that's really unnatural and must be incredibly complicated, not surprised it wasn't played - 25... Nf4 is possible there for a start :)

Now 26. Nxf4 gxf4 27. Bxf4 looks good for white?

Might well be, but good luck calculating that with one minute on your clock. That's after you've already found the ridiculous-looking Qf5 + Rf3 :)

Good call. Out of interest, at what point in the game did you say this. I was watching this game live and thought Flear could give Gormally a little tickle in the double rook ending but then was surprised by Rd7 instead of Rxc5. Did Glenn miss ... g5? Anyhoo, having stuffed up two winning double rook endings (actually managing to lose one two pawns up) last week, my judgement is not to be relied upon in these matters.

It’s too early to say it’s Gormally’s year just yet of course but he’s in a really good position. Already played Howell and Hawkins; ahead of his other nearest (elo rating) rivals; two whites to come ...
