We are a newly formed Chess Club who have a physical venue AND an online Discord server AND an active LiChess Team where we hold regular tournaments. Also, another tip, go on the ECF ratings list and search for any ungraded players in the Bristol and District area as this would let you see any potential free agents that could be tracked down and potentially converted into players.

I have recently been contacted by a parent who wants her kids to join the Club. However, I don't know what kind of (DBS?) checks one needs while working with kids?! Has anyone had any experience with this!?

Here is a little information for you, it is generally a very good idea to have a DBs checked 'child protection officer' in a club that has regular unsupervised contact with children.

You can always impose a condition that parents/carers must be present for the duration of their children's attendance. Of course if you are looking to run junior teams/training sessions then you may need to go down the DBS route.
