Club Looking for Members

Post by Arnav Sud » Sun Oct 16, 2022 9:06 pm

We are a newly formed Chess Club who have a physical venue AND an online Discord server AND an active LiChess Team where we hold regular tournaments. If you are interested in some online chess/improvement or want to drop in for some drinks, snacks and of course good ol' OTB Chess at our venue, you are more than welcome to!
Discord: https://discord.com/invite/KTNXhy9256
LiChessTeam: https://lichess.org/team/bristol-four-knights
Whatsapp: https://chat.whatsapp.com/GbdAN9JcahhHUnp4Zgoa1G
We are ECF registered as 4B4K and plan to get some teams in to play for the League soon! Cheers!

P.S. Thanks to all the members of this forum for their guidance on how to start and found a new Club. Much appreciated.

If you are looking to play in Bristol , this is their league website which you could contact and might help to advertise your new club to players in that area.
https://www.chessit.co.uk/

Also, another tip, go on the ECF ratings list and search for any ungraded players in the Bristol and District area as this would let you see any potential free agents that could be tracked down and potentially converted into players.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Also on the ratings site, look for players where Bristol or surrounding districts is quoted as a place rather than a club.

I have recently been contacted by a parent who wants her kids to join the Club. However, I don't know what kind of (DBS?) checks one needs while working with kids?! Has anyone had any experience with this!?

Here is a little information for you, it is generally a very good idea to have a DBs checked 'child protection officer' in a club that has regular unsupervised contact with children.

This is how to apply for the dbs

You can always impose a condition that parents/carers must be present for the duration of their children's attendance. Of course if you are looking to run junior teams/training sessions then you may need to go down the DBS route.
