Changes to FIDE ratings.

Post by MJMcCready » Mon Mar 11, 2024 4:02 pm

Hi all, from what I understand FIDE recalculated all ratings under 2000 recently, giving most people a bit of a boost in rating. What was the reason for that and why only those under 2000?

See this thread: FIDE ratings revaluation.

Links there will help, plus small amount of discussion.

Long and short of it is that the rating system has been broken for years at lower levels, lockdown massively inflated the problem and once it finally reached the levels of the protected bubble of super GMs and their ratings started to go down FIDE had no choice but to take their head out of the sand and do something.
Whether the fix will be enough remains to be seen, it will need a couple of years.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.
