The best thing to use for multi-platform documents is LaTeX. As long as you set the preamble properly (i.e. you don't have margins that are about a foot wide), you can generate a PDF (and several other things I've not experimented with) that can be accessed on any platform. It can be a bit of a pain to learn from scratch though. I seem to have picked it up in a few months though, so it can't be that difficult. The documents you produce look a lot more professional too, in my opinion. It's all free to download; there are several IDEs available.

I find a lot of the techno-talk on the forum interesting and useful, and this thread contains some ideas and suggestions which I shall be investigating in due course. But should there perhaps be a forum area specifically set aside for IT discussions, whether it is about chess software or general IT tips that might be of use to chess webmasters and others? The original thread subject seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. And, yes, I realise I may have contributed to the derailment.

I apologise for being somewhat intolerant yesterday, John. I can assure you that everything that is written on the Forum gets read by at least one ECF Director. Well almost everything.

I don't have a problem with threads crossing, except when doing DIY.

Seconded. I was tempted to comment on Alex Holowczak's LaTeX recommendation, but felt that the thread had already drifted way too far from its source.

Ah, if it isn't our friendly ECF neighbourhood bobby on the beat, with his cheery "mind 'ow you go, sah!" - PC Raoof. Afternoon, officer. No need to apologise, I realise that it was all in the line of duty although, for one terrible moment, I thought you were going to nick me for causing a breach of the peace. Maybe I woz a bit aht of order.

Nah, then, nah then, there's nothing to see 'ere, move along please...

As is well known Vladek Sheybal played Kronsteen in 'From Russia with Love'.

Also well known is the game used was a Spassky - Bronstein game
with Vladek Sheybal playing White (Spassky had White).

I was checking out something else on Edward Winter's site and found this.

Stamps commemorating famous chess players and Spassky is one of them.

The only problem is they have used a picture of Vladek Sheybal.

I took Boris Spassky on a conducted tour of Gibraltar. The tour guide pointed out that scenes from three James Bond films had been short there.
This caused Boris to mention that a fragmend of his game against David Bronstein had been included (at the start) of 'From Russia with Love'. He said one pawn of each colour had been removed from the position. He suggested that might have been because of fear of copyright law. Of course, we know there is no copyright in chess games, although attempts have been made to exert it.

Me or any other clown can put that game in a book and get paid for it.
Worse still, you can even play the same moves in a game yourself. Indeed, you're actually encouraged to.
