At the risk of derailing this thread... What?!

1) Where do you get tables and chairs from? (And more importantly, who moves them?)
2) Warwick is not a flat city. It would be difficult to put the equipment there.
3) Summer at Warwick Castle means one thing: Jousting! Chess would not be a big draw at that time at all.

Also, what if it rains? Do you propose we seal a move and continue when it stops?
I like the idea. Though all the practicalities of it may not have been fully considered, I think the principle is certainly something that should be considered. Bring chess to the people, so to speak.

Boards 12, 13 and 14 are all Sicilian Richter-Rauzer!

Coincidence or are the players looking next door for inspiration?

When I first started playing chess, not too long after the Fischer-Spassky match, playing simultaneous displays in shopping centres was very popular. The chess club I belonged to increased its membership by 20% after one of these.

The fact that this thread has had 1015 replies and 28953 views is very encouraging. Many more than last year's event drew, I think.

The topics are a little varied though, I think there should be a separate subforum / folder for the British Championships whilst it's taking place so all the different subjects can be compartmentalised a little better.

It isn't, but I've just uploaded it to 93,000 places on the internet to cover up my mistake.

I just looked it up on wiktionary.

It's defined as "Simple past tense and past participle of compartmentalise."

Useful...

Compartmentalise is defined as "Alternative spelling of compartmentalize."

Also useful...

Compartmentalize is defined as "(transitive) To separate something into different categories or compartments."

So it would seem that it may be a word after all!

In round 5 of the Under 14 Championship, Marcus Harvey defeated Radha Jain, one of the few players who I thought might upset him. Peter Batchelor is also quite capable of beating Marcus, but he has to play Felix in round 6 so probably won't get to play Marcus in the final round. Maria Wang has had some great games against Marcus in Oxfordshire over the years, but I think he has pulled away from her a little in the last year or so.

Adam Hunt's position still seems fine. Judging from his last few moves it looks like he is planning on playing N(c2)-e3-f5, where it will be a monster.

Safe to say the won't be copying Rudd's moves anyway.

I agree with Simon, Black looking very good in Adam v Adams.

Talking of people with similar names -

a. have the brothers Pert met before in the British?

b. if they have, have they met a high as board two?

c. are there previous examples of siblings meeting in the British?
