I have little doubt there was a 1964 bulletin (although not then living in the UK). It may have been prepared by Ritson Morry or whoever did 1962.
Hastings library may have a copy. There is also a Yearbook. You do not say so, but presume you are seeking to find the games of Ron Fuller.
Tony Gilham is another possible owner of any bulletin. My last phone number is 01602 51200. That looks wrong. He lived(s) in Nottingham.
The query can go to the BCM. John Saunders is excellent at these things.
I think I remember the name.

To the best of my knowledge no bulletin was published for the British Championship in 1964, although it's possible one might have been written. Britbase lists the games as missing, along with many other post-war years up to and including 1961. But John Saunders will know a lot more about this than me.

Stewart is thinking of Tony Gillam - now Cllr Anthony J Gillam (another chess player in politics) whose details I have as 0115-9123248 or e-mail [email protected]

I appear to have 28 games from the 1964 British Championship at Whitby on my home database, I think mainly culled from BCM and CHESS, plus some games sent me by Mr John Johnstone some time ago. Perhaps there was no bulletin that year. I have one game by Ron Fuller (from BCM)...

Dear Stewart

I think this must be Ronald A Fuller who played for Insurance Chess Club on Board One (at least if W. Veitch was not playing !!).

I have no games of his except for those B H Wood may have published in 'Chess' ... but it is just possible that Insurance Chess Club's Archives may have a record of some of his games ... perhaps Ian Hunnable or David Sedgwick could help ??

Peter J. B. Wilson

[Vice President of Insurance Chess Club ... and an active Insurance Chess Club/League player around the early 1960s !!!]. I used to also play for Temple Bar (Legal & General) in the Insurance Chess League .... from 1963-1966

I can't, unfortunately. I'll send Ian Hunnable a link to the thread.

Alas, I don't think I can help. The Insurance Chess Club is rich in archive material concerning the Club's administrative affairs, but players' game scores for that period are as scarce as hens' teeth. (Or should that be hen's teeth? I can't say I've used the expression before!)

However, I will look and come back if I find anything.

From the description (21cm), much more likely the congress programme/brochure rather than a bulletin with games.

If the height is 21 cm that would make it A5 in size. Isn't 38 pages quite a lot for a brochure?

I was half remembering the brochures of the BCF congresses in which I played 1947-61, and think they could have had over 30 pages. Lists of officials, welcome from the Mayor of Whitby and the YCA and NCCU presidents, tournament rules, schedules, lists of players in every tournament, fill in yourself crosstable for the British, ads, lists of previous British champions.......

Even Millfield as late as 2000 ran to 32 pages. With the availability of computer generated cross tables, they left out the fill your own , but much of the rest of the content was still as Leonard remembers it. Lists of players who had entered takes up a few pages.

I have received confirmation from someone who has a copy that the 1964 BCF Championship brochure/programme comprised 38 pages.
