Yeah, that pawn move wasn't the best, but Howell was in time trouble again, so possible some psychological aspect to what happened there. Was he hoping to blitz Carlsen by playing rapidly and winning?Leonard Barden wrote:Seems Howell just jeopardised his own position by 42 g5? Qa4! and Carlsen has serious winning chances for the first time in the game.

I bet he's enjoying the end of Gormally-Jones as well.Jonathan Bryant wrote:I bet Keith Arkell is enjoying the end of McShane-Kramnik.

Interesting end to McDonald-Hebden. Hebden played 91...Kb7 when white had 11 seconds left. Had he tried something else, so his rook wasn't pinned, he might have been able to stall enough to win on time. Would white have claimed a 10.2 I wonder?

No doubt f7 is featuring heavily in Short's thoughts at the moment!

Re: LCC - the games!
Finally some updates. I think the players are running out of ideas in Adams v Anand. Probably roughly equal in Luke's game but with much more play in the position. Howell struggling to hold the balance and looking for a perpetual. As to Kramnik v Carlsen, well White is surely much better, maybe just winning at their level? I guess that Carlsen was inspired to play Chigorins because he knew that Kramnik played this relatively unambitious line with White, but of course VK is very happy in these += positions ...

I have a feeling that Nakamura is more then just equal - he seems to have far more activity and control.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Re: LCC - the games!
Oh that Qa3+ saved the day for luke - as long as kramnik doesnt win his game then it leaves things very open for the last round, but carlsen seems to keep finding resources to keep the position alive - he might just pull something out of the bag yet...

I cannot get the live games up but McShane drew and 46. Nc3 is the latest Kramnik move I have

Looks like Magnus is getting massacred to me. Another suspect opening seems to have cost him.

Re: LCC - the games!
Doesn't he just put the B on d5, force a2 to allow Kg2 then win with the remaining g pawn?

In what position are you envisaging forcing a2?Simon Brown wrote:Doesn't he just put the B on d5, force a2 to allow Kg2 then win with the remaining g pawn?
